CONROE, Texas -- Conroe Independent School District reports on campus updates for The Woodlands area schools from October 30- November 5.

Birnham Woods Elementary School

November 4 is the fiftieth day of school; the students and staff will celebrate by dressing fifties style.

November 4 - 8 is the amazing Birnham Woods Book Fair. The hours will be 7:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and at 11:45 a.m. to 2:45 a.m. This is a great chance to start your Christmas shopping early!

November 5 will kick off the First Grade Open House at 6 p.m. followed by the first grade Fifties Sock Hop program at 7 p.m. The Book Fair will be open between the hours of 4:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. for those who would like to do some evening shopping.

Broadway Elementary School

Friday, October 25 is Fitness Friday with Dads at Broadway. Our P.E. Teachers, Deanna Mays and Jonah Lambright have prepared a lot of fun activities for our students and their dads, grandpas, uncles, brothers, etc. It starts at 7 a.m. Friday morning.

We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week next week with several activities planned for our students. Monday: Be "Red"y to Say No to Drugs, Tuesday: Team Up Against Drugs, Wednesday: Your Future is Bright, Drug Free, Thursday: Drug Free from Head to Toe, and Friday: Broadway Rocks Drug Free. There is also a door decorating contest in which all of our homerooms will decorate their doors to go along with the theme of the week which is Be All You Can Be, Be Drug Free!

Thursday, October 31 is our A/B honor roll celebration for those students who made all A's and B's.

Friday, November 1 is our A Honor Roll celebration for those students who mad all A's on their report card.

Also on Friday at 2 p.m. is our Walk of Fame where students who have been inducted into our Character Hall of Fame will parade around the school in celebration of their good character. The parade will be led by Mocha! These students have been inducted into the Hall of fame: Devin Salals, David Sefcik, Jamieson Blanchard, Jayson King, Robert Powell Brady Flauaus,Natalie Bourgeois, Jacey Nabors, Maya Primo, Lacie Miller, Maximo Madrigal, Andy Shen, Ysabelle Lujan, Parker Combs, and Karenza Gray.

These students received a Principal High Five: Ethan Gartin, Kow Atrause, Demarcus Kuhn, Isaiah Madera, Gael Valenzuela, Savannah Sanderlin, Breanna Flores, Brian Hernandez, Eva Foster, Abby McPheeters, Natalie Bruschke, Ella Mack, and Kandice Lopez.

Bush Elementary School

On Wednesday, October 30 kindergarten will go on their field trip to Hundred Acre Woods.

?On Thursday, October 31 the Parent Teacher Organization will host our second annual “Boosterthon Fun Run.”

The Fall Book Fair is coming! The students will get a Book Fair Preview on Friday, November 8.

Collins Intermediate School

We would like to thank those students who participated in our first iPod Day. It was a big success! We generated approximately $1,124.00. This money will go towards our Collins Scholarship Fund. Any former Collins' students who are graduating this year are eligible to apply. More information will follow in the spring. Thank you for your support.

On Tuesday, October 29 from 5p.m. - 8p.m., Jerry Built Burgers will be hosting a Collins Spirit Night. We hope that you will be able to attend. Just tell the person taking your order that you are with Collins.

Good luck to all of our sixth grade band students who will be auditioning for the CISD Honor Band at Mitchell on Saturday, November 2.

Cox Intermediate School

Timberwolf teachers are Recognizing Our Committed Kids. Teachers are keeping their eyes out for students who are making great choices in behavior. Deretchin K-6 School

Report cards were sent home in Tuesday folders on October 29, please make sure to review these with your children.

Deretchin is celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 28 - November 1. Please join us in sending a “Drug Free” message by participating in activities during “Red Ribbon Week” and “Deretchin Gives Back”. When you don't do drugs, you invest in your future. In honor of “Red Ribbon Week” and “Deretchin Gives Back,” there will be two ways that Dragons can make a difference. There will be a collection jar in the cafeteria. You and your child may donate loose change to invest in a student's future. All donations collected will go toward our Deretchin Scholarships. Dragons will also have an opportunity to donate a pair of new socks throughout the week. All donations will go to homeless shelters within our community.

Ford Elementary School

Ford Students visit the S.O.A.R. Store on Friday, October 25 with “Caught Being Good Tickets” they have earned for being Safe, Organized, Accountable and Respectful at school.

The CISD Police Department will present a Drug Awareness program to students on October 29.

Galatas Elementary School

There will be a gifted and talented program parent information sessions on October 30 at 10:30 a.m.

Spider Day will be celebrated on October 31. Students will have the opportunity to explore spiders by participating in themed educational activities throughout the day.

The annual food drive will take place November 4 - November 15. Contributions will go to the Interfaith Food Pantry.

New toys will be collected through December 10. The donated toys will go to “Children in Santa's Dreams,” a program which Conroe ISD Police Department began in 2002 to bring joy to children in the school community.

Glen Loch Elementary School

Picture retakes will be done on Wednesday October 30.

Gator Run is Friday November 1 during Specials Classes. Come and cheer for your student when they run their laps. Gator Run raises money for the Parent Teacher Organization while students learn the fun of running and getting exercise. All students participate regardless of whether they have gotten any pledges. The Gator Takeover of Raising Cane's was a big success.

Thank you to Raising Cane's for supporting our Parent Teacher Organization. The November Parent Teacher Organization meeting will be held on Monday November 4 at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Hailey Elementary School

Red Ribbon Week continues through November 1. Students will have daily lessons and activities about healthy choices and a drug free life.

Cookie Dough pick-up is Friday, November 1 at 2-6 p.m. in the rear of the school. Before 4 p.m., please enter through front of the building. After 4 p.m., pick-up can be accessed from the back of the school.

Monday, November 4, kindergarten celebrates the fiftieth day of school with fifties dress-up and root beer floats during the school day.

Fourth grade presents their music program, Honor to our Heroes, Tuesday, November 5 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Fourth grade students report to the music room at 5:40 p.m. dressed in red, white, or blue shirt and jeans. All veterans and current service members welcome! Students are encouraged to participate in honoring our veterans by submitting a page with service member's picture and description of their military service.

Students are encouraged to bring aluminum cans for recycling every Friday for the Cash for Cans program.

Hauke Alternative

October 30 – November 1 Red Ribbon will continue.

October 31 students will read to kids at Houston Elementary.

November 5 Spanish and Art will go to Renaissance Festival.

Kaufman Elementary School

Fall fun days are set for Wednesday, October 30 for first grade classes and Friday, November 1 for second grade classes.

Our first Boosterthon Fun Run Fundraiser will take place on Thursday, October 31.

Second grade classes will have a Scarecrow Parade on Friday, November 1 to show their support for Red Ribbon Week with “Scare Drugs Away.”

Group pictures and makeups will be on Tuesday, November 5.

Knox Junior High School

The Coats for Kids Drive will be held September 30 – October 28. Bring in your gently used items to help those in need.

Seventh grade girl Basketball Try-outs will be Tuesday, October 29; Thursday, October 31 and Friday, November 1. Participants must attend try-outs all three days. Seventh grade tryouts will begin at 6:45 a.m. Eighth grade try-outs will be Wednesday, October 30 through Friday, November 1. Eighth grade try-outs will be held after school from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Klabo in Room 207.

The Speech and Debate Team won the sweepstakes position in the small division at the Klein Oak Junior High Speech and Debate Tournament on Saturday, October 19. The following individuals won awards. Lincoln Douglas Debate: first place - Devin Metzger, second place - Dylan Mitchell, third place - Sara Waldrop and Qintaar Rafique. Sara Waldrop won the Top Speaker Award. Extemporaneous Speaking: first place - Sarah Waldrop, second place - Devin Metzger, fourth place - Dylan Mitchell, and fifth place - Ben Scarborough. Poetry: fourth place - Dana Cadey.

Lamar Elementary School

We are excited for Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 28-Nov. 1!

We are having our Reading Benchmark on Nov. 5. Therefore, the campus will be closed on that day. Leopards are leaders!

McCullough Junior High School

Highlighted Highlanders Award recipients for October were presented with certificates and treated to donuts provided by the Parent Teacher Organization. The Highlighted Highlander Award is given to students who exemplify achievements warranting special recognition such as exhibiting a courteous and respectful attitude, performing a good deed, improved performance or exemplifying great leadership skills. The final pep rally of the year will be held on November 5 at 8 a.m. in the large gym. The theme for this pep rally is “The Fifties.”

Mitchell Intermediate School

Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated Monday, October 28 through Friday, November 1. The theme this year is “Our School Rocks Bully and Drug Free.” Students can wear red on Monday, October 28 for “Red Hot Against Drugs and Bullying.” Tuesday, October 29 is “Don't Get Mixed Up With Drugs” and students may wear mismatched clothes. Wednesday, October 30 is “Shade Out Drugs and Bullying” so students can wear sunglasses. Thursday, October 31 is “Our School Rocks Bully and Drug Free” and students can dress like the Rock Stars they are. Friday, November 1 is “Say Goodnight to Drugs” and students can wear their pajamas to school.

On Friday, November 1, the Parent Teacher Organization will sponsor a Fifth Grade Social from 4-6 p.m. The band will be performing at Mitchell Intermediate Night with the Houston Rockets on Friday, November 1 at the Toyota Center at 7 p.m. All friends and families are invited to watch the band perform on the court prior to the Rockets game against the Dallas Mavericks. Intermediate Honor Band auditions will be held at the school on Saturday, November 2 beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Picture Retake Day for individual students will take place on Tuesday, November 5.

Sixth grade Honor Orchestra students will be attending the Texas Renaissance Festival Competition on Tuesday, November 5. Congratulations to the Sixth Grade Orchestra and the Honor Orchestra for their successful performance in the fall concert.

Powell Elementary School

Panthers will be taking class group photos on Friday, November 1.

In celebration of the fiftieth day of school, kindergarten will be having a "fifties day" on Monday, November 4. They will be coming to school in fifties style clothing and having a sock hop and enjoying some tasty floats.

Snyder Elementary School

Wednesday, October 30 will be picture retakes.

The book fair will take place November 4 - 8 in the library. Online sales begin October 28. Visit the Snyder website and click on the book fair link for more information. The book fair will be open for our family night November 7 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The 4th Grade Veteran's Day Program and Open House is November 7 at 6 p.m.

The Woodlands Ninth Grade Campus High School

The Parent Teacher Organization sells t-shirts each week during lunches at both campuses when football game tickets are sold. We also have sweatshirts, shorts, earrings, and more. Spirit wear is always for sale at the front desks of both campuses.

Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated during the week of October 28 to November 1. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated across the United States in memory of Enrique "Kiki" Camerena, a member of the United State Drug Enforcement Administration, who was brutally murdered in Mexico in 1985, after infiltrating drug trafficking bands and successfully helping break up many of them. In 1988, the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth joined with DEA and implemented an eight-day Red Ribbon campaign that spread to places as far away as Europe. Since then, the National Red Ribbon Week is celebrated to present a unified and visible commitment toward the creation of a Drug-free America, and is dedicated to Enrique "Kiki" Camarena and all of the people who have been wrongly killed due to the violence of drugs.

The following days will be celebrated by: Monday, October 28 -- "Red out day" -- wear all red; Tuesday, October 29 -- "Twinning Tuesday" -- Twin day; Wednesday October 30 -- "Put a cap on drugs" -- wear a hat; Thursday October 31 -- "Blast out drugs" -- dress up like your favorite superhero; Friday November 1 -- "All Clues Point to a Drug Free TWHS” -- dress up like a CSI detective. Red ribbons will be placed around trees in the courtyard and on the campus to signify the meaning behind Red Ribbon Week. There will also be other clubs and organizations doing various activities around the campus to commemorate the efforts of all of those who stand against drugs.

Career & Technical Education Career Expo Thursday, November 7: Attention Parents and Students in Grades nine thru twelve. The Conroe ISD Career & Technical Education Program is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Career Expo scheduled for Thursday, November 7 at the Lone Star Convention Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. We are excited about providing our students and parents with the opportunity to meet with business and industry representatives from Montgomery County. We have invited over 90 business and industry representatives to participate. The goal of the Career Expo is to connect your student with Montgomery County career opportunities, internship options, and other workforce opportunities that will enhance your child's successful transition into the workforce after graduation. Students will have the opportunity to meet with individuals who are working in careers they are interested in. Bring your child to help them investigate future careers and to help them make informed decisions about the future classes at TWHS and their career choices. TWHS will conduct a food drive to benefit the Interfaith food pantry beginning Monday, October 21 to Thursday, October 31. Students may bring a cash/check donation to school or a nonperishable canned food for advisement classes. Each dollar donated will be worth 6.5 pounds of food. Student Council will reward the Advisory on each floor that brings in the most "pounds" with a breakfast. The drive is in competition with College Park, and will be measured on a per capita basis.

Let's show our Highlander pride and fill the shelves at Interfaith! Student Council will be supporting the CISD Police Department's "Coats for Kids" campaign. There will be collection boxes in the front office to collect gently used coats, jackets and sweaters. CISD Police will distribute all collected items to students in our communities in need. Consider sorting through outgrown outwear to donate to children in need in our community.

The Woodlands High School

The Golf Booster's Tournament is quickly approaching! The Scramble will be held Tuesday, November 5 at the Player Course. Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Breakfast provided and lots of prizes on the course! Last year, someone won a car!!! Student Council and FFA are teaming up to coordinate the annual Red Ribbon Week activities on both campuses during the week of October 28-Novmeber 1. Dress-up days have been established to allow students to show their support for eliminating drugs in our school and community. Listed below are the dress-up days for the week: Monday is Red out... wear all red; Tuesday is Twinning Tuesday..... Twin day; Wednesday is put a cap on drugs.... wear a hat; Thursday is blast out drugs.... dress up like your favorite superhero; Friday is say "All Clues Point to a Drug Free TWHS” dress up like your favorite CSI detective. Students must adhere to dress code standards for each of the days with the exception of Wednesday when hats will be approved.

Tough K-6 School

Coulson Tough second graders have been decorating pumpkins to represent a character in one of their favorite books. The pumpkin characters will be on display in the Coulson Tough library.

Fourth graders at Coulson Tough will enjoy a fun filled day of studying bats on October 31. From bat facts to bat stories, the day will be filled with all things batty.

Recycling is important to everyone at Coulson Tough and on October 31, third graders will be using recycled materials to create a robot. All of the robots will have a story to tell.

On November 1 at 1:30 p.m. the Coulson Tough Spotlight on Responsibility ceremony will be held. One student in each classroom will be honored for exhibiting the character trait of responsibility. Congratulations to all of Tough's responsible Titans.

York Junior High School

Girls’ basketball tryouts will be October 28 - November 1. Seventh graders will start at 7:15 a.m. every morning. Eighth graders will be immediately after school. You must be present at all tryouts. Come dressed and ready to work. A physical is needed in order to tryout. Those interested need to see Coach Kloesel. Boys’ basketball tryouts will be held November 6 - November 8. Seventh graders will start at 7:15am. Eighth graders will be immediately after school until 5:15pm. You must be present at all tryouts. A also must have a copy of your birth certificate, physical, and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest form on file before tryouts begin. Red Ribbon Week will begin October 28 - November 1.
