Conroe ISD Campus Updates: February 5-11
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Conroe Independent School District reports on campus updates for The Woodlands area schools from February 5-11.
Broadway Elementary School
Broadway students and their families will enjoy Broadway Family Game Night on Friday, February 7.
Then on Thursday, February 13 the student council will deliver Singing Valentines to students and teachers throughout the building.
Also, on Friday, February 14 the students will be participating in our annual Jump Rope for Heart in the gym. There will also be Valentine parties on Friday, February 14.
Buckalew Elementary School
First graders will celebrate the 100th day of school with parade during the morning of February 6. The costumes worn by these ‘old folks' are exceptional. Please join us!
Author Jackie Mims Hopkins will visit Buckalew on February 7.

Bush Elementary School
On Thursday, February 6 students will be taking their spring pictures.
The Parent Teacher Organization will hold their annual their annual Valentine's Dance on Friday, February 7 at 7 p.m. Fathers bring your daughters and mothers bring your sons. Wear your “Sunday Best” attire and dance the night away.
Are you fitter than your third grader? Third graders and their parents are invited to our Third Grade Fitness Night on Tuesday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the gym.
Collins Intermediate School
CISD Honor Choir auditions are right around the corner. Choir students who are participating should be coming to Thursday rehearsals at 8 a.m. The auditions will be held at Bozman Intermediate in Conroe on Friday, Feb. 7. Since they begin at 4:30 p.m., we will have a bus to provide transportation to the school; however, parents will need to provide transportation home. Students will be dismissed as soon as they have completed their audition. Any parents who would like to come to Bozman and wait with students in the cafeteria is welcome. Mrs. Schlacks will be judging and not able to sit with the students, so a chaperone is needed. Best of luck to our Choir students who will be representing Collins in the CISD Honor Choir!
Montgomery County Book Festival, Saturday, February 15, Lone Star College/Montgomery Over forty authors, including Ridley Pearson, author of the Kingdom Keeper series and Marissa Meyer, author of Cinder, will participate in the 2014 Montgomery County Book Festival. Events include keynotes, author panels, writing workshops, book signings, photo booth fun, crafts, entertainment, and food. Registration for the event is free. Box Tops for Education Have you been saving your Box Tops? Well, now is the time to send them into the school to turn them into cash for Collins! Turn in the Box Tops to your child's teacher. Clearly label the container with the teacher's name and the LC number. We will have a contest to see which class can submit the most Box Tops. Collins will continue to collect Box Tops throughout the school year.
Counselor Mrs. Hall will be visiting with students this month about Celebrating Diversity and Bullying Prevention. It is important for students to have a healthy respect for diversity of beliefs, cultures, and people who look and think differently as well as experiences and culture. David Elementary School
The following choir students attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Texas Children's Hospital located in The Woodlands: Emily Madeley, Taylar Rowe, Kaylan Shinke, Mia George, Gracie Leal, Raisa Alvi, Madi Dominguez, Malaika Monareng, Mason Paslay, Nicholas Dale, Carter Womble, and Mark Cecil. These students, under the direction of Mrs. Blackburn, sang during the ceremony to welcome the new hospital to The Woodlands. The third grade parent involvement will be held on Friday, February 7, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in all third grade classrooms.
Deretchin K-6 School
Our third grade PE program will take place on February 6 at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Please come join the fun!

Ford Elementary School
Ford Elementary after-school tutorials for third and fourth graders begin on February 3 to be held each Tuesday and Wednesday after school.
Second grade students will learn about water conservation with the “Save Texas Water” program on February 4.
S.W.E.E.T. Luncheons with the Counselor will be held on February 6.
February 6 is Kindergarten's 100 Days Celebration.
Galatas Elementary School
Hundredth Day of School will be celebrated with activities in the classrooms on February 5.
On February 5, there will be Chick-fil-A fundraiser night at the Alden Bridge location. A percentage of the restaurant's sales will be donated the Galatas Parent Teacher Organization.
The Third Grade Program will be on February 6 at 6:30 p.m.
Glen Loch Elementary School
Students should wear sunglasses to school on Wednesday February 5, crazy socks to school on Thursday February 6, and Gator Green on Friday February 7 to celebrate the one hundred days of school.
The Parent Teacher Organization will have the school store open during active start before school on Wednesday February 5.
Houston area author Hilary Ralles visited Glen Loch and held writing workshops with fourth graders and gave a presentation about Science Fiction to third graders.
The Parent Teacher Organization is selling personalized bricks as a fundraiser.
Please continue to drop off your plastic shopping bags for our recycling collection. Plastic bag recycling bins are located just inside the front doors.
Hailey Elementary School
The School Spirit Store will be open during lunches Thursday, February 6.
The Parent Teacher Association will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, February 6, at 6 p.m. in the school library.
Students are encouraged to bring aluminum cans for recycling every Friday for the Cash for Cans program.
Irons Junior High School
Irons Junior High hosted the January Student of the Month breakfast in the Myrna Wise Irons Reading Corner of the school library on January 31. The January Students of the Month were chosen by a team of their core teachers and recognized in a reception with a Chick Fil A Breakfast (provided by the PTO). Students also received a certificate, a "Got Game" T-shirt, and a "Sit where you want at lunch" pass. The following students were recognized: Abigail Bates, Jenna Worthan, Cindy Hernandez, Destiny Ramos, Liam Fernandez, Dalia Nouraldeen, Sydney Johnson, Kevin Benitez, Kimberly Manual and Cheyenne Sims.
Irons Jr High Cheer Tryout Information: There is a mandatory pre-tryout meeting February 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria (candidate and parent must attend); Tryout Clinic March 3-5 from 4:30-6 p.m.; Tryouts March 6 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Post-tryout meeting (if you make it) is March 25 at 6 p.m.

Kaufman Elementary School
February 3 – 7 is Book Fair Preview in the library.
February 5 and 6 is Jump Rope for Heart during PE for second, third and fourth graders.
On February 6, the students and staff will have the honor of listening to award winning author, Susan Stevens Crummel. PTO will be meeting at 1:30. We will have our Spring Creek BBQ Spirit Night beginning at 5 p.m., come out and support your Cougar.
Kindergarten will be celebrating the 100 day of school on February 7 by dressing up as one hundred year olds and participating in a parade.
February 10 – 14 the Book Fair will be open for purchases. The family event night will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Come out to see Clifford the Big Red dog and enter to win $25 dollars worth of free books.
Knox Junior High School
The following students were selected to the All-Region Choir on Saturday, January 25: Rachel Conrad, Abby Acompanado, Dana Cadey, Karla Villaraus, Katie Kirkpatrick, Taylor Grove, Isabella Overturf, Taylor Jeffers, Faith Chabert, Shaelin Walker, Chris Neiman, Armand Acompanado, Anthony Mireles, Ethan Armstrong, Adithya Chunangad, and Trenton Dees.
The Student Council kicks off their 2014 Pasta for Pennies Campaign this month. Pasta for Pennies raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The competition will be between third period classes with the first place class winning an Olive Garden Pasta Party, second and third place receiving a pizza party and fourth and fifth place classes enjoying a cookie cake party.
Lamar Elementary School
The Second Grade Program is February 6 at 6 p.m. in the gym. Come hear the multicultural music!
McCullough Junior High School
Our annual elective information night for incoming seventh grade students and their parents/guardians will occur on the evening of February 11 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Commons. This evening is designed so that students new to McCullough have an opportunity to visit informally with various elective teachers to gain information on their programs. A presentation for girls interested in athletics will occur in the Nancy Bock Auditorium at 6 p.m. and a session for boys at 6:35 p.m. Band instructors will be available for questions in the new band hall. Counselors will also lead two sessions for anyone needing help completing the elective course request sheet. These two sessions will occur in the Commons LGI at 6 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. Go for the Gold!
The library is sponsoring a “Winter Olympics” reading challenge beginning now through February 28. Visit the library for details.
The 2014-2015 Cheerleader Tryout Informational Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13 at 6 p.m. in the Bock Auditorium. This meeting is mandatory and a parent/guardian must accompany the student. The tryout application packet will be handed out at the meeting and all forms from the packet checklist must be filled out and returned to the front office by 4 p.m. on February 20. The mandatory tryout clinic will be March 3 through 6 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The Game Club will meet at 4 p.m. on February 12 in the downstairs library. New members are welcome. Permission slips may be picked up in the Counseling Center.
The annual Blitz Day is February 12. Students will attend all eight classes that day. The Blitz Day schedule is available at the bell schedule portion of our website.

The Mitchell Library will continue to host the Scholastic Bok Fair until February 14.
The Intermediate Honor Choir auditions will take place on Friday, February 7 at Bozman Intermediate School.
The school will be having a Fire and a Severe Weather Drill on Monday, February 10 at a.m.
Third Quarter Progress Reports will be distributed on Tuesday, February 11.
Powell Elementary School
Panthers will be celebrating 100th day of school on Thursday, February 6 with various activities.
The Parent Teacher Organization annual fundraiser Boosterthon Fun Run will be held at Capstone Park on Friday, February 7.

Snyder Elementary School
Friday, February 7 Snyder Scholars will be honored with a special celebration during lunch. Dr. Ann Snyder we will here celebrate with the students.

The Woodlands Ninth Grade High School
Weather make up day – February 17: Due to school being cancelled on January 24 students will make up the day on Monday, February 17.
The Montgomery County Book Festival is Saturday, February 15 from 10a.m. until 5 p.m. at Lone Star College - Montgomery. Nearly fifty authors of adult, young adult, tweens, and children's literature will be in attendance. Featured speakers are Jenny Trout, Ridley Pearson, Bruce Foster, and Marissa Meyer. Activities at the festival include music, concessions, author panel discussions, book sales, book signing, a Teen Zone, and a Children's Zone. The Woodlands High School
Our annual MD Anderson Blood Drive is Feb. 6 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students must be 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds to donate. Parents are welcome. No appointment necessary. Please talk to your student about donating. All of the blood donated stays at MD Anderson and goes to cancer patients. One donation helps three patients.
Tough K-6 School
The One Hundredth day of school will be celebrated at Coulson Tough on February 5. Many activities are planned to commemorate this exciting day.
Coulson Tough's Boosterthon Fun Run will take place on February 7. Monies raised will go towards purchasing a sun shade for the playground. A percentage of proceeds from the Fun Run will also be donated to local food banks.
Wilkerson Intermediate School
Social Studies benchmark tests will be administered to fifth and sixth graders on Tuesday, February 4 during students' social studies class time. The Reading Benchmark for both fifth and sixth grades will be February 11. We will be observing a closed campus for the Reading Benchmark.
Please join us for our next Spirit Night at Spring Creek Barbeque located on the north bound feeder road near Research Forest and I-45. Part of the evenings proceeds will benefit our students!
Look for third nine weeks progress reports in the Tuesday/Newsday folders on February 11. The N.E.A.T. (Never Ever Absent or Tardy) pep rally has been rescheduled for Friday, February 14 at College Park High School.
York Junior High School
Current seventh graders need to turn in their course selection sheets to their Science teachers or the Counseling Center by February 6.

Kaufman Elementary School
February 3 – 7 is Book Fair Preview in the library.
February 5 and 6 is Jump Rope for Heart during PE for second, third and fourth graders.
On February 6, the students and staff will have the honor of listening to award winning author, Susan Stevens Crummel. PTO will be meeting at 1:30. We will have our Spring Creek BBQ Spirit Night beginning at 5 p.m., come out and support your Cougar.
Kindergarten will be celebrating the 100 day of school on February 7 by dressing up as one hundred year olds and participating in a parade.
February 10 – 14 the Book Fair will be open for purchases. The family event night will be on Tuesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Come out to see Clifford the Big Red dog and enter to win $25 dollars worth of free books.
Knox Junior High School

The Student Council kicks off their 2014 Pasta for Pennies Campaign this month. Pasta for Pennies raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The competition will be between third period classes with the first place class winning an Olive Garden Pasta Party, second and third place receiving a pizza party and fourth and fifth place classes enjoying a cookie cake party.
Lamar Elementary School
The Second Grade Program is February 6 at 6 p.m. in the gym. Come hear the multicultural music!
McCullough Junior High School
Our annual elective information night for incoming seventh grade students and their parents/guardians will occur on the evening of February 11 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Commons. This evening is designed so that students new to McCullough have an opportunity to visit informally with various elective teachers to gain information on their programs. A presentation for girls interested in athletics will occur in the Nancy Bock Auditorium at 6 p.m. and a session for boys at 6:35 p.m. Band instructors will be available for questions in the new band hall. Counselors will also lead two sessions for anyone needing help completing the elective course request sheet. These two sessions will occur in the Commons LGI at 6 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. Go for the Gold!
The library is sponsoring a “Winter Olympics” reading challenge beginning now through February 28. Visit the library for details.
The 2014-2015 Cheerleader Tryout Informational Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13 at 6 p.m. in the Bock Auditorium. This meeting is mandatory and a parent/guardian must accompany the student. The tryout application packet will be handed out at the meeting and all forms from the packet checklist must be filled out and returned to the front office by 4 p.m. on February 20. The mandatory tryout clinic will be March 3 through 6 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The Game Club will meet at 4 p.m. on February 12 in the downstairs library. New members are welcome. Permission slips may be picked up in the Counseling Center.
The annual Blitz Day is February 12. Students will attend all eight classes that day. The Blitz Day schedule is available at the bell schedule portion of our website.

The Parent Teacher Organization will hold their next monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 5 at 9:30 a.m. in the library.
The students in fifth grade will go on a field trip this spring, sponsored by the PTO, to Spring Creek Nature Center. LC 5 will go on Wednesday, February 5 and LC 3 will go on Thursday, February 6.
The Mitchell Library will continue to host the Scholastic Bok Fair until February 14.
The Intermediate Honor Choir auditions will take place on Friday, February 7 at Bozman Intermediate School.
The school will be having a Fire and a Severe Weather Drill on Monday, February 10 at a.m.
Third Quarter Progress Reports will be distributed on Tuesday, February 11.
Powell Elementary School
Panthers will be celebrating 100th day of school on Thursday, February 6 with various activities.
The Parent Teacher Organization annual fundraiser Boosterthon Fun Run will be held at Capstone Park on Friday, February 7.
The Parent Teacher Organization Spirit Store will be open on Friday, February 7 from 7:30 to 8 a.m.

Snyder Elementary School
Friday, February 7 Snyder Scholars will be honored with a special celebration during lunch. Dr. Ann Snyder we will here celebrate with the students.

The Woodlands Ninth Grade High School
Weather make up day – February 17: Due to school being cancelled on January 24 students will make up the day on Monday, February 17.
The Montgomery County Book Festival is Saturday, February 15 from 10a.m. until 5 p.m. at Lone Star College - Montgomery. Nearly fifty authors of adult, young adult, tweens, and children's literature will be in attendance. Featured speakers are Jenny Trout, Ridley Pearson, Bruce Foster, and Marissa Meyer. Activities at the festival include music, concessions, author panel discussions, book sales, book signing, a Teen Zone, and a Children's Zone. The Woodlands High School
Our annual MD Anderson Blood Drive is Feb. 6 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students must be 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds to donate. Parents are welcome. No appointment necessary. Please talk to your student about donating. All of the blood donated stays at MD Anderson and goes to cancer patients. One donation helps three patients.
Tough K-6 School
The One Hundredth day of school will be celebrated at Coulson Tough on February 5. Many activities are planned to commemorate this exciting day.
Coulson Tough's Boosterthon Fun Run will take place on February 7. Monies raised will go towards purchasing a sun shade for the playground. A percentage of proceeds from the Fun Run will also be donated to local food banks.
Wilkerson Intermediate School
Social Studies benchmark tests will be administered to fifth and sixth graders on Tuesday, February 4 during students' social studies class time. The Reading Benchmark for both fifth and sixth grades will be February 11. We will be observing a closed campus for the Reading Benchmark.
Please join us for our next Spirit Night at Spring Creek Barbeque located on the north bound feeder road near Research Forest and I-45. Part of the evenings proceeds will benefit our students!
Look for third nine weeks progress reports in the Tuesday/Newsday folders on February 11. The N.E.A.T. (Never Ever Absent or Tardy) pep rally has been rescheduled for Friday, February 14 at College Park High School.
York Junior High School
Current seventh graders need to turn in their course selection sheets to their Science teachers or the Counseling Center by February 6.
The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is hosting a junior high retreat. It will be at Carolina Creek Christian Camp on Friday, February 7 to Sunday, February 9. Please see Coach Cephus in Room 252 or Mrs. Boldt in Room 161 for more information.
