THE WOODLANDS, Texas – To celebrate the Salvation Army’s 77th annual National Donut Day, First Choice Emergency Room today announced that all 34 of its facilities across Texas and Colorado will serve as donut giveaway sites – 13 of them being in Houston. First Choice Emergency Room, the nation’s leading freestanding emergency room system, will be giving away free donuts and coffee on Friday, June 6 from 7-10 a.m.

“We are grateful for community partner First Choice Emergency Room’s support of our efforts to do the most good for our neighbors in need and joining us to celebrate National Donut Day,” said Lisa Garces, Director of Development for the Salvation Army of Greater Houston.

In 1938 during The Great Depression, The Salvation Army in Chicago started National Donut Day as a fundraiser. It honors the United States military veterans and commemorates the work of Salvation Army volunteers who used donuts to comfort American soldiers in France and Germany during World War I.

“We are honored to partner with the Salvation Army and this long-standing tradition that supports our veterans and countless volunteers across the nation,” said Thomas S. Hall, President and CEO, Adeptus Health. “With 34 facilities across two states, we estimate we’ll be giving away more than 2,000 donuts in support of this initiative.”

Additionally, for every person that stops by a First Choice Emergency Room facility for a quick tour, First Choice Emergency Room will donate $10 to the local Salvation Army chapter, up to $20,000 total.

Simply drop by any First Choice Emergency Room facility for donuts and coffee to give back to the community.
