THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute-The Woodlands provides athletes of all ages and levels including professional, competitive and recreational access to an elite and comprehensive suite of experts, testing and training.

The Woodlands state-of-the-art facilities along with human performance experts, train local athletes for Olympic competition and more.

Established in 2013, Memorial Hermann and World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) launched The Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute-The Woodlands. Today, the Institute serves athletes in local communities across Houston with highly-trained professionals in sports science, orthopedics, orthopedic surgery, physical therapy, human performance, sports nutrition and more. The collaboration also includes cross-sport research on human performance, injury prevention and injury recovery.

“Our all-encompassing sports medicine clinic provides leading care to athletes of all ages and skill levels,” said Brian Duncan, Director, Physical Therapy Residency Programs & Human Performance, Memorial Hermann. “Bringing these services and facilities to local communities like The Woodlands is a win-win for these athletes and their overall performance goals.”

The Institute’s experts and state-of-the-art facilities coupled with WTC’s extensive knowledge of endurance training and recovery helps both injured players return to their sport sooner and builds stronger athletes overall in sports like basketball, football and track and field.

Local race team, Adidas Team Green Running led by Dan Green, one of the most successful running coaches in the United States, is a club focused on distance running and developing runners in cross county, on the roads and the track. Team Green Running is a partner with the Institute which gives its athletes access to world-class training and techniques.

“Team Green Running is extremely happy to have a partner like Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Sports Medicine Institute for its team of athletes,” said Dan Green, Running Coach, Adidas Team Green Running. “The facility’s exercise psychologist, strength and conditioning coach and dietitian work closely with the team to optimize performance and overall endurance.”

Another local race team, Finish Strong Racing, also a partner with the Institute, fosters athletes that compete in national, regional and local triathlons, running and cycling races.

“We are grateful for the commitment the Institute has extended to our team over the last several years,” said Dana Lyons, Finish Strong Coaching. “Their services and support have helped make it possible for our athletes to improve their training, racing and recovery.”

The Institute works with athletes such as these local race teams to increase strength, speed, agility, flexibility, coordination, cardiovascular endurance and overall conditioning. Performance testing services include VO2 max to study peak oxygen usage; body composition analysis to analyze the amount of fat versus lean muscle tissue; lactate profile to determine the level of exercise intensity in which the body produces a performance-limiting substance called lactate; basic biomechanical and gait analysis to identify abnormal gait patterns and muscle imbalances; and a sport nutrition assessment to determine an athlete’s nutritional needs based on body type, sport, etc.
