THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Please join Texas in welcoming Banking On Kids at a complimentary luncheon buffet on Wednesday, Mar. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Conroe Area Chamber of Commerce. This open-to-the-public luncheon is planned to introduce Banking On Kids' effective financial literacy program to Texas bankers. Banking On Kids offers powerful real-world experience by allowing the students to operate a real bank using real money. Participants at this milestone event will hear power speakers discuss the program, and present valuable points and trends in financial literacy, community reinvestment, public relations and Charles Nenner Research. Co-founded in 1996 by Oprah Winfrey and college professor, Dr. Ed Anhalt, Banking On Kids has a longstanding 19-year track history; this Texas launch denotes the latest chapter to be added to the organization.

Financial literacy for the youth of America has never been more important. The Banking On Kids' effectively proven system teaches fiscal responsibility in real student-run banks in grades K-8. In 1996, the first Banking On Kids student-run bank opened, and proved to showcase just how simple it is to teach banking concepts to children, such as the value of saving within the curriculum-driven Banking On Kids program, teaching money issues such as compound and simple interest, banking systems, the workings of the Federal Reserve and more. The program has inspired the 2015 Campaign for Financial Literacy across the nation, a multimedia campaign that recognizes the efforts and achievements of individuals, businesses and organizations taking action to educate and empower the nation's youth with financial knowledge.

"Understanding financial terms and being educated about savings and investments and the power of credit in our current society are all crucial skills that are completely overlooked in our school systems and are not generally being learned at home,” states National Account Director Lou Garino. "With Banking On Kids, we are committed to our kids and their future. We are looking forward to working with our Texas banks to empower next generation Americans with solid financial education. There is great hope for the future of America in the voting hands of the next generation of a more financially literate society."

Sponsoring banks average 500 new savings accounts per school, with cradle-to-grave loyalty from new account-holders. As part of a national awareness media campaign for financial literacy, each sponsoring bank will benefit from local and national press releases, radio interviews, social media campaigns, and print and other media coverage of each school's student-run bank opening, Community Reinvestment Act benefits to each bank are numerous, as Banking On Kids has been proven effective in meeting the needs of community development, a process which is documented and highlighted through photo opportunities and letters of appreciation within the communities served.

Certificates of recognition will be awarded, and each bank will be entered in the public relations excellence awards for promoting financial literacy in America.

The Bankers' Lunch will be held at the Conroe Chamber of Commerce, 505 W. Davis St., Conroe 77031. Participants at the March 4 luncheon will be served a complimentary buffet that will include broasted herb chicken and green bean almondine, with baked rigatoni and homemade Italian meat sauce, served with garden tossed salad and rolls. Mimomas, soft drinks, coffee and tea will be provided as well. Cost is FREE but seating is limited, so RSVP to Cheri Lane at 832-343- 9339 or bankingonkids@gmail.com.
