Volleyball: The Woodlands shuts out rival College Park 3-0
Oct. 17, 2017 was an eventful night starting off with calling teachers to the floor to claim their gift for Teacher Appreciation Night. They received an array of gift cards all the way to gift baskets filled with chocolate. The Cavs also showed appreciation towards breast cancer survivors and patients as players and fans wore pink to bring awareness towards victims and their loved ones.
The first set of the game was won by The Woodlands playing aggressively winning 25-18. College Park’s Catherine Clausen kept the team motivated as the team fought hard against digs and kills. Senior AJ Koele from The Woodlands carried the team as she earned the title of Player of the Game.
Starting off the second set, the Lady Cavaliers came in strong scoring three points within the first minute. The team went crazy as they celebrated senior Lauren Freeman’s 498th kill for the entire season. The joy transitioned into madness as The Woodland’s line judge called a ball as out and the ref claimed to not have seen it. The unruly call made the boos of the crowd echo around the gym.
Parents were standing and shouting “get it back!” As a wake up call for the Cavs, they slowly but surely made a come up, tying the score 21-21. Tensions were high as junior Maddie Diaz spotted the ball and tied the game 24-24. Ultimately, the Highlanders resulted in a fairly close domination against the Lady Cavaliers.
The tension was high throughout the remainder of the game as the third set tied 1-1 with both teams scoring. College Park relied on Maddie Diaz for aces. The plays progressively got longer as the girls from both teams fought hard. Hitting a double, College Park let the Highlanders score a point, a devastating blow to the Lady Cavaliers resulting in the score 15-21. The final score: 25-17 in favor of The Woodlands.
