Conroe ISD adopts 2018-2019 budget, includes raise for all employees
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- The Conroe ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2018-2019 Official School Budget at their August 21 meeting. In addition to providing funding to support all campuses including the opening of Grand Oaks High School and Clark Intermediate, the 18-19 budget features a competitive raise for all employees and salary adjustments for identified areas.
Of the $495M budget, 89.2% of the funds are for payroll for the District’s 7,900 employees. The remainder of the budget is largely allocated for utilities for Conroe ISD’s 63 campuses and fuel for the nearly 400 bus routes driven daily.
Conroe ISD CFO Darrin Rice presented the budget in detail in a hearing just prior to the Board Meeting. In that presentation, he highlighted the District’s low tax rate of $1.28. Conroe ISD lowered the tax rate by .5 cents for each of the 2012-13, 2013-14, and 2014-15 academic years to its present level of $1.28. The District has the second lowest tax rate in the Houston area and is an average of 22 cents below peer districts.
Safety and security continue to be a top priority for the District with the designation of funding for 15 new police officers and one police leadership position. These positions complement the recent addition of a District Mental Health Specialist.
Rice also shared during the hearing about the recognition Conroe ISD has received in the areas of transparency, financial efficiency and high student achievement. Conroe ISD has three transparency stars from the State Comptroller in the areas of Traditional Finances, Debt Obligations, and Contracts & Procurement.
The District has also received a 5-star rating from Texas Smart Schools for the eighth consecutive year- one of only three districts in the State to do so.
