Cooper Interact Officers Report On Outreach Activities to Woodlands Rotary Club

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Interact Club executive board members and faculty sponsors from The John Cooper School attended The Rotary Club of The Woodlands luncheon on March 21. Interact Club President Lauren Sands gave an update on the club’s activities and introduced members of Cooper’s Interact Club Executive Committee who were in attendance.

Cooper’s Interact Club is one of the largest clubs on campus. The club sponsors two blood drives each school year, competes in the YMCA Dragonboat Races, supports the annual Rotary Christmas Party for local senior citizens on campus, and participates in Serving Our Seniors and Veggie Village through Interfaith of The Woodlands.

Outreach efforts specific to this year included assisting many school-related events and activities on campus, giving Valentine’s gift bags for residents of Tamarac Pines and walking dogs at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. Club members supported the Human Rights Walk, including the Santa Paws fundraiser for animal relief organizations and raised money for St. Jude’s Children Hospital, through Pottery Barn Teens, raising the most donations in the country. The club also supported Project Cure’s warehouse in Houston by packaging medical supplies for developing countries and collected new and used shoes for Soles4Souls who redistributes them to people in need. Their work is continuing through the spring semester.

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 to 18. The Rotary Club of The Woodlands sponsors Interact clubs at area high schools, including Cooper, by providing support and guidance. The Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting.
