THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Christopher McDonald, a senior at The John Cooper School, won the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) individual golf title on April 29-30, firing a two-day total score of 150 (78-72) at Woodforest Golf Club. McDonald narrowly edged out his nearest competitors by one stroke.

McDonald and sophomore Grant Carter (sixth place, 79-79-158) earned All-Conference honors helping the Dragons improve from sixth place on Day 1 to a third-place finish in the team standings. Senior Sean Kelly (84-79-163) also played inspired golf. Senior Davis Noyes (93-99-192) and Michael McGurk (96-97-193) rounded out the boys’ team.

“Freshman Tillie Claggett (75-72-147) put on an impressive display of golf to earn third place medalist honors in her SPC debut,” said Rod Gold, head golf coach for The John Cooper School. Freshman Claire Glymph (115-116-231), sophomore Tori Osmond (117-119-236) and freshman Vanessa Vaz (116-120-236) rounded out the girls’ team. Sophomore Mady Tozer was unable to finish due to illness.

“Obviously watching Christopher win the individual championship was a great honor. I am proud of all of our players,” Gold said. “We are definitely going to miss our seniors and we are excited regarding the potential of our returning golfers. We are very young, we have a lot of underclassmen who are going to be really fun to watch in the coming years.”
