THE WOODLANDS, TX -- John Cooper Dragon Volleyball starts strong.

VARSITY VOLLEYBALL Cooper Finishes Third Out of 62

8/10-11 at TAPPS Spike Down Classic Tournament, Fort Worth, TX

From Coach Ray Hedden: The team played in the three-day Spike Down Tournament finishing third out of 62 teams. Our only loss was to Concordia, who ended up winning the tournament. The team came into the tournament straight out of tryouts. We held team placement Monday and Tuesday and got on the bus Wednesday, so we have had minimal time on the court as a group. We won our pool on Day 1 after going 2 -0–1 then did the same on Day 2 also going 2-0-1. We started Day 3 in the platinum division (top bracket) facing Houston Christian, beating them in straight sets. We then moved into the Final 4 having to play Concordia in order to make the finals. Concordia prevailed, but we played hard and gave them a great match. The third place match had us up against Lubbock Trinity. The third place match was all about who wanted it more. Both teams are very scrappy but we prevailed showing true grit.

Tournament leaders for the Dragons:

Laura Weatherford (’22) was named All Tournament – led the team in passing and digs with 64 digs!

AJ Harrell (’21) led the team in offense with 49 kills as well as lead the team in blocks with 16! She was very dynamic and every team we played had a tough time stopping her.

AC Adam (’20) and Lauren Wolford (’23) led the team in ACEs both tallying 14.
AC also was 2nd in passing efficiency and tallied 30 digs

Lauren Harkness (’21) led the teams offense with 64 assists

Rivers Kolesar (’23) and Hailey Huettel (’20) both played great with 26 kills each
