THE WOODLANDS, TX -- We’ve reached the point of the season where for some teams, each game gets the “must-win” tag attached to it. Friday’s game between the 1-3 College Park Cavaliers and the 1-2 Oak Ridge War Eagles should be considered a must-win for both teams.

With multiple district losses already, Oak Ridge and College Park are on the wrong side of the playoff line and looking like longshots for a playoff spot, sitting in 6th and 8th place. In four out of the last six years, the last team in finished the season with three district losses. With Oak Ridge sitting on two losses, College Park already at three, and both teams still having to face top teams in District 15-6A, a loss at Woodforest Stadium on Friday could shut the door on their 2019 playoff hopes.

Seasons being on the line will only increase what is often a very intense game between district rivals. Four of the last six meetings were decided by seven points or less. In those last six meetings, Oak Ridge was victorious in four of them, however, the Cavaliers picked up a 23-21 win in 2018, thanks to a last-minute 20-yard field goal from Andrew Lutz.

Both teams are very productive in the run game, so with both defenses thinking run-first coming into this game, the team that can effectively move the ball through the air will be in a great position to pick up a much-needed win. Also, keep an eye on special teams this week. In last year’s game, along with the game-winning field goal, College Park also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and made some big plays with the punt return unit to help pick up the win.

Friday’s game will be a Woodlands Online On-demand broadcast brought to you by Memorial Hermann and Hal Watson Air Conditioning. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
