Eight Cooper Athletes Commit to Compete at College Level on National Signing Day

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The John Cooper School Athletic Department held a signing ceremony on Wednesday, February 5, National Signing Day, in the Dunlap Gymnasium, to recognize eight senior athletes who will be competing at the college level in the fall of 2020. Cooper students, parents, faculty, coaches and teammates joined Athletic Director John Hoye to honor the student athletes who will compete in football, tennis, swimming, baseball and cross country.

“These athletes have all worked hard while at Cooper and we join them in celebrating their successes,” Hoye said. “We wish them all the very best and look forward to following their college athletic careers.”

In football, James Araya will play for Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska; Thomas Elkhoury will compete at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut; and Cameron Reed will play at Washington and Lee, Lexington, Virginia. Wyatt Wright will also attend Washington and Lee to play tennis. Lauren Cordes has committed to swim for Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennesee and Cadan Hansen will run cross country at Rice University, Houston, Texas. Two Dragons will play baseball at the college level. Callum Burton will play at George Washington University, Washington, D.C. and Tyler Douglas will play at Davidson College, Davidson, North Carolina.

These eight athletes join two Dragons who signed on National Early Signing Day in December. Kase Harris will represent Davidson College on the football field and is Cooper’s first-ever Division 1 football commit. Christopher Seymour will swim for Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland.
