YMCA Serving the Community - Mobile Food Market
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Even though the doors of the YMCAs are closed during these difficult times of COVID-19, our hearts are open and our legacy of service continues to meet the needs of the community.
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is disrupting the world as we know it, with a heavy toll on human lives and economic activities. Its rapid global spread is threatening to affect millions of people already made vulnerable by food insecurity, malnutrition and the effects of conflict and other disasters. Locally, Montgomery County Food Bank distributes food to more than 30,000 individuals a month in Montgomery County. They do this in partnership with more than 60 partner agencies including the YMCA.
Addressing the basic needs of families with food insecurity, The Woodlands Family YMCA will host a mobile market in the Shadowbend YMCA parking lot on Saturday, March 28th, 10am – Noon. Located at 6145 Shadowbend Place in The Woodlands, patrons will drive thru each station, never leaving their vehicles. Boxes of food will be loaded into their cars by volunteers and Y Staff. . Each family will receive 30lbs of fresh produce, 30lbs of dry/canned goods, 10lbs of frozen meat and lots of breads/desserts.
Distribution of food will be on a first come, first serve basis with enough food to serve 150 families, starting at 10am. Signage will be available to help with traffic flow. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced.
As a non-profit organization, the Y depends on community support to continue to support those in need. For those who are YMCA members, we ask that you continue to support our work through your membership. For community member and businesses who would like to support our efforts, please reach out to our development team, firstname.lastname@example.org.
