CONROE, TX - From January 1, 2021, to January 31, 2021, Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS) will participate in Beanstack's Fourth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, sponsored by Simon & Schuster. The theme for this year's Winter Reading Challenge is  Books Like Us. A list of books is provided with this theme and is intended to foster a celebration of diversity by harnessing the transformative power of seeing oneself reflected in a book. This month, take a moment to explore these books from authors spanning an array of diverse backgrounds.

Crystal Swimmer, the Youth Services Coordinator, spearheaded MCMLS's participation in this new book challenge. Mrs. Swimmer says she was excited about this year's theme because, "It is essential that children, teens, and adults see themselves represented in the literature that they are reading, as well as through the authors who wrote those books. Every person should have the opportunity to read a book where they can see themselves in the characters and relate to their stories. It's a powerful thing to see oneself reflected in a book and to feel less alone in the world."

MCMLS challenges our patrons to read at least one book during the month and keep track of their reading on our Beanstack site at  countylibrary.beanstack.com  or in person at your favorite branch. Please help us reach our goal of reading 15,000 books by January 31, 2021!
