MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- Today the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management assisted St. Luke’s Hospital and Montgomery County Hospital District with the installation of two large portable hospital tents. These tents will help the hospital with triage and help lower the time ambulances have to wait at the ER with their patient before handing them off to ER staff.

As previously discussed the county approved hiring multiple staffing agencies to facilitate up to 130 additional nurses for all of our hospitals to help staff additional beds and increase patient care. The first group of nurses should arrive by Sunday. This will be a huge help to our local hospitals and staff.

Our hospitals are doing a phenomenal job handling all the patients and emergencies coming to them. Not all patients are COVID related, but the current surge of COVID in the state is adding extreme pressure to all hospitals not just ours.

As of yesterday evening 327 patients were in Montgomery County hospitals who are confirmed COVID-19. Of those 91% are unvaccinated. 63 of which are in the ICU and all of the ICU patients are unvaccinated.

Our frontline doctors and nurses who I spent the day with on Monday told me that they are seeing a consistent 9 out of 10 patients coming in who are unvaccinated. The vaccinated patients are rarely admitted and if so are under minimal observation. The sickest are unvaccinated and some have underlying health conditions putting them at greater risk.
For anyone who wishes to get a Covid vaccine there are ample supplies available at several pharmacies and clinics throughout the county. We will never mandate a vaccine in Montgomery County.

Here are some basic things you can do to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 to yourself and your family.
1) Assume personal responsibility. Stay informed, take action based on common sense. Mandates are not necessary nor will they happen in Montgomery County.
2) Keep your hands washed as frequently as possible or use hand sanitizer after interactions with people and objects.
3) Stay home if sick. We have several viruses making their rounds currently. RSV is bad currently in addition to COVID. All are highly transmissible to others.
4) Frequently keep surfaces clean and sanitized. Including high touch points. Don’t forget your cell phone.
5) Keep physical distance from others outside of your household as much as possible and if you want wear a face covering when in public areas.

As you know I do not support mask mandates nor do I support forced vaccinations. We all know what we have to do to keep ourselves and our families safe and we must all take personal responsibility for our own health and the health of our families.
