Incorporation of The Woodlands Will Be Included on This Year's Ballot, Nov. 2, 2021

THE WOODLANDS, TX — The Woodlands Township Board of Directors announced that incorporation of The Woodlands will be on the November 2, 2021 ballot. Voters will be asked to vote for or against incorporating The Woodlands Township as a city. The Woodlands Township is currently a special purpose district.

The decision was announced at a special meeting held Aug. 13, where the board set to, “Receive, consider and act upon a review of the Incorporation Study Financial Model and determination of a proposed maximum initial tax rate related to the Incorporation Planning Study.”

There will be two propositions on the ballot;
• Authorizing the type A city incorporation of The Woodlands Township District and the adoption of an initial tax rate of not more than $0.2231 cents.
• Proposition two is that upon incorporation of The Woodlands Township District into a type A general law city to be called The City of The Woodlands, the transfer of the rights, powers, privileges, duties, purposes, functions, responsibilities, the authority to issue bonds and the authority to impose taxes, from The Woodlands Township District to The City of The Woodlands.

'What this board has been doing for the last five years is planning, reserving, working towards a position to give our community an opportunity to transition that’s not a tremendous burden to their family, and put us in a position to be counted, respected and treated the same as everybody who's surrounding us,” said Chairman Gordy Bunch.

The decision was a 5/2 vote.

The Township will be conducting community forums this fall.
