THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Residents are invited to participate in the Great Texas Birding Classic on April 20, 2024. This event will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lakeside Park, located at 5001 West Alden Bridge Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77382.

The Great Texas Birding Classic (GTBC) is an annual competition held across Texas, challenging registered teams to identify and count as many bird species as possible within a specified timeframe. This is the biggest birdwatching tournament in the United States.

The Woodlands Township registered team is sponsored by Visit The Woodlands and will be competing in the “Big Sit” category where participants are challenged to remain within a 50-foot-diameter circle to count their birds. Residents can join The Woodlands team and help spot and identify as many birds as possible in the allotted time. New to birding? Let our team members guide the way. No birding experience needed!

Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and binoculars for optimal viewing, or they can borrow a pair from the event coordinators (limited supplies available). All ages are welcome to join this great outdoor adventure. For more information, please contact The Woodlands Township Environmental Services at enviro@thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.
