THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Oak Ridge Lady War Eagles hosted the College Park Lady Cavaliers last night at Oak Ridge High School for a 13-6A district game. Oak Ridge was trying to add a win to their 4 and 4 record last night and give College Park their first loss in district.

College Park has dominated their opponents in both defense but especially in offense. The deciding factors for many of the games have been their serve as well as Alexis McDaniel, libero/defensive specialist. She is a dig master and saves a majority of kills from hitting the ground by keeping the ball in play which typically helps them score points.

Both coaches agree that this is a brutal district with some highly skilled and tough opponents. Although the Lady War Eagles have a lower record than the Lady Cavaliers, they are still not to be messed with. In the first set College Park came out with the traditional fast pace attack to throw off the Lady War Eagles.

Coach Gibson with the College Park Lady Cavaliers said, “Tonight was a hard match but we knew it was going to be. And we knew that Oak Ridge was gonna play really well and I think they really did”

Oak Ridge tested College Park throughout the match by grinding and making exceptional maneuvers to keep the ball in play. Taking a page out of The Woodlands and College Park’s handbook by being in the right place at the right time and digging many kills. This really showed in the second set by making the right decisions, the Lady War Eagles won the set and came out more motivated in the 3rd.

This was short lived but Oak Ridge still gave their all against a top team in the district. “They [College Park] make a 30-foot box not have many holes,” said Lady War Eagle Head Coach, Coach Sledge about College Parks defense.

College Park stays undefeated and with the Woodlands on Friday, hopes to have the best record in district and keep their winning streak going. The Woodlands Lady Highlanders have an 8 and 1 record and currently sit right behind the College Park Lady Cavaliers. While the “War of the Woods” is happening the “Battle of the Oaks” will be happening as well. Two rivalries from 4 of the Woodlands area schools will face each other in the final district game of the season.
