HS Volleyball Playoffs: The Woodlands Knock-Out Klein and Advances to Semi-Finals
TOMBALL, TX – Out of the four Woodlands area volleyball teams, The Lady Highlanders made it past the Area Finals to face Klein in the Regional Quarterfinals at Tomball Memorial High School. They Lady Highlander’s dominance continued into the post-season shutting teams down in just three sets. It shoes how difficult the 13-6A district is, when the number 1 team gets knocked out in the second round but the second seed is still in it.
The first couple of rallies into the first set the Klein Bearkats and The Woodlands Lady Highlanders came out swinging and flexed their skills to establish the tempo of the game. Klein had some massive kills by 6’4’’ Kierstyn McFall but The Woodlands rallied together to dig a couple of strikes out and gain the lead. Klein had many errors while The Woodlands had to deal with an offensive team, one of which would have to crack. After going point for point, The Woodlands capitalized on some great defense and closed out the first set on top; 25-21.
The second set Klein came out with some brutal offense while The Woodlands slipped into their old habits of not communicating and making some small errors. This resulted in Klein taking control of the game at an early stage and keeping the lead until the end. Weather it was nerves or being comfortable, The Woodlands wouldn’t make that mistake again for the third set. While Klein fell apart with many errors, the Woodlands struck back with some huge plays on offense. The Lady Highlanders made a huge statement in third by winning 25-15.
Once again in the final set, The Woodlands came out swinging and dominated by overwhelming Klein with some impenetrable defense and scrambling their formation with some great kills by Reagan Whatley. Being such a huge and difficult game, nerves overcame The Woodlands and Klein would come back from a huge deficit. But once they collected their thoughts and calmed their nerves The Woodlands would make some kills to finish out Klein, 25-19, giving them a pass to the next round; Regional Semi-finals.
The Woodlands is set to play DeSoto or Mansfield Friday to see if they can make it to the finals and essentially the State Tournament.
