2022 Legacy Luncheon Award Recipients Announced

CONROE, TX -- The Community Assistance Center (CAC) has announced the Legacy Award Recipients who will be honored at the 2022 Legacy Luncheon scheduled for April 22, 2022, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott. Stephanie Land, author of bestselling debut memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive will be the speaker for the event.

The Legacy Luncheon is an opportunity for Community Assistance Center (CAC) to recognize local community members who serve as champions for CAC and make significant contributions to our Montgomery County neighbors in need along with promoting the programs and services provided by this vital agency. The event will honor local leaders, business partners, faith partners, fellow service organizations, and the amazing power of volunteers.

The 2022 Legacy Award will honor Scott Perry, Immediate Past Chairman of Community Assistance Center. Scott is employed with the City of Conroe as a supervisor for Parks and Recreation. He played a significant leadership role at CAC during the pandemic while the organization worked long hours assisting the community during the shutdown and in recovery mode. Scott is a true advocate strengthening the infrastructure of the organization, shared the vision throughout Montgomery County, and regularly volunteers his time to help with projects at CAC such as the agency’s mobile market food distributions, passing out holiday groceries, unloading various donations coming to CAC’s resale shop, helping around the building whenever he can, and serving as an advocate for CAC and the critical work we do for residents struggling through times of crisis.

Each year CAC recognizes a Faith Partner that has been instrumental to their success. The Woodlands United Methodist Church has provided generous support with immediate response during disaster recovery while also contributing monetary support, food and gas gift cards, and homeless care kits. The compassion and enthusiasm of their Missions Team and swift volunteer effort is unparalleled while their support continues to be a cornerstone of helping people through times of crisis.

Keep US Fed (KUSF) KUSF is an integral community partner to CAC providing additional nutritious food options through the CAC Food Pantry. The organization has grown into a major food rescue operation providing over 4000 pounds of fresh produce, and other quality perishable food items daily from local grocers and restaurants. KUSF relies on an army of volunteers to rescue and deliver donated food to pantries and other nonprofit organizations throughout Montgomery County. Established as a project of the Leadership Montgomery Class of 2015, KUSF has functioned as an independent 501 C3 since 2018, alleviating hunger and reducing food waste in Montgomery County.

The Distinguished Service Award recipient for 2022 is Board Member Mike Medved and his wife Julie Medved for their dedication, passion, and reliability to devote time to the CAC Food Pantry and Unique Resale each week. Mike and Julie are a shining example of people who make this community so special.

The 2022 Legacy Luncheon speaker will be Mark Linabury, President of the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to recognizing the 2022 Legacy Award Recipients, CAC is honored to have Stephanie Land, author, speak about her hardships living as a single mom in shelters, in a car, and her struggle with lack of support from her family. Her challenges align with the mission of CAC to assist individuals caught in struggles no matter how hard they try to swim upstream. The single mom experiences she faced are relevant to the conditions residents have faced especially after the pandemic.

Proceeds will benefit CAC, a non-profit social services organization providing basic needs assistance with rent, mortgage, utility assistance, food, and clothing as well as case management services, disaster recovery and additional resources to our neighbors throughout all of Montgomery County who are struggling through times of monetary crisis. Through times of uncertainty, Community Assistance Center (CAC) is a beacon of hope in the community. In Montgomery County, 10% of county residents are below the Federal Poverty Level with another 22% of residents identified as Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed (ALICE) meaning families have income above the Federal Poverty Level, but not high enough to afford basic household necessities. Year to date, CAC has provided over 12,400 units of service and $1,500,000 in financial assistance to Montgomery County residents struggling through financial crisis.
