THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Oak Ridge takes on the next years newly appointed 2022-2023 6A team; Caney Creek, at home. The War Eagles with a (4-10) record are trying to finish off this non-district season with a win against the Panthers, who have a (5-8). The 13-6A district might have new opponents next year but this year it is stacked with Grand Oaks at the top of the current non-district standings with a 11-5 record.

The first half started off slow with both teams struggling to find the basket but more so Caney Creek. The Panthers first possession lasted many minutes as they passed all around the 3-point line in hopes to find an opening to make a quick basket. The War Eagles figured this out right away and tightened up their defense and shut down the attack within the first minutes of the game. This resulted in a low scoring first half with Oak Ridge taking the lead 22-15.

Finding themselves behind, Caney Creek switched up their offense and started to be more aggressive but still had the same passing routine. This would be their downfall; with one too many passes instead of taking the shot, Oak Ridge took advantage and forced many steels and turnovers. Although the Panthers struggled on offense, on defense, they were able to stop the War Eagles on the majority of their attacks. At the final buzzer Oak Ridge held the lead against Caney Creek and posted a score of 52-30.

The 13-6A district is a tough district in all the sports. College Park along with The Woodlands and Grand Oaks have some of the best athletes representing each school. Oak Ridge came out this year bigger and stronger than last year which they are going to have to use to compete against the other 5 schools. District play starts later this week Oak Ridge is set to play The Woodlands Friday at The Woodlands High School.
