THE WOODLANDS, TX – You only have until the end of today to register to vote – if you haven’t already – for the March 1 primaries. Those who have already registered should have received their updated voter cards, if necessary, in the mail.
Deadline is today if you wish to register to vote in the March 1 primary elections

For many local races, the primaries will determine the eventual winner in the November general election, as they are unopposed. However, there are several significant races whose results rest squarely on the shoulders of primary voters. These hotly contested local races include the positions of county judge, congressional districts 2 and 8, state representative districts 3 and 15, and county commissioner precinct 4; statewide the fields are wide open for the offices of governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, railroad commissioner, and many, many more.

Texas doesn’t have a “party registration,” so you are welcome to vote in either the Democratic or Republican primaries; for Montgomery County races, however, only a single Democrat – April Prim – is seeking a county office, so you won’t have to check quite as many boxes. State election laws dictate that you have photo ID when voting in person; additionally, there are rigid protocols and prerequisites for mail-in and absentee voting.

If you’re unsure if you’re registered or registered at the proper address, the Texas Secretary of State website has an “Am I Registered?” link at https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do. If you’ve moved within the same county, there’s an easy link to update your address at https://txapps.texas.gov/tolapp/sos/SOSACManager. If you’re recently moved to Montgomery County from another county, you must register anew..

Registering to vote is just a few simple clicks away. Easy-to-find links are on the Vote Texas website at [wolml:bold]https://www.votetexas.gov/register/index.html[/wolml:bold]. You can register online with the Secretary of State; however, if you’re not into the Internet, you can download and print an application to mail in, or visit a local voter registrar; for Montgomery County, the Elections Administrator is Suzie Harvey, P.O. Box 2646 Conroe, TX 77305-2646 – (936) 539-7843 Phone / (936) 538-8143 FAX. For Harris County, the Elections Administrator is Isabel Longoria, P.O. Box 3527 Houston TX 77253-3527 – (713) 274-8200 Phone / (713) 368-2309 FAX.

Note that today’s deadline is just for the ability to vote in the March primaries. More opportunities to register will be made available for voting in the May uniform elections and November general election.

Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for updates on Election Season that is already well underway.
