THE WOODLANDS, TX – Just in case you thought your civic voting duties were done until the November general election, think again. Several races at levels ranging from precinct level to statewide are still up for grabs.

Runoff election day is May 24

For those unfamiliar with the protocols, runoffs occur during an open election – primary or other non-general election – when no single candidate gets at least 50.1 percent of the vote. When this happens, the top two candidates in each race face off for a winner-take-all-to-the-general-election contest.

Whether you voted on the Republic or Democrat primary ballot, both parties are represented in this runoff election; races yet to be determined include – depending on your ballot – lieutenant governor, attorney general, railroad commissioner, comptroller land commissioner, and precinct chair. Whoever receives the most votes in these races will go on to run in the November general election, unopposed or otherwise.

Early voting for these runoff elections is currently happening in both Montgomery and Harris Counties all week long; Election Day itself is Tuesday, May 24. But every weekday this week is open for you to cast an early ballot. Polling locations are open 7:00 am to 7:00 pm today through Friday. No polls will be open this weekend or next Monday, so if you miss your early voting window, be sure to take some time off Tuesday.

Another advantage of early voting is that you can vote anywhere in your county at one of the open polling locations; on Election Day, you’re limited to only your precinct polling location.

Montgomery County voters can get more information at www.mctx.org/election and Harris County voters can access www.harrisvotes.com.
