HOUSTON, TX – Rice University was the home to the UIL 2022 Baseball Regional Quarterfinals between The Woodlands and Grand Oaks. Once again it is a best of 3 game series and the winner will move on to the Regional Semifinals.

The Woodlands was the home team on the neutral field while Grand Oaks would bat first. Ethan Coronel, starting pitcher for The Woodlands, showcased why they chose him to start off the game. As he retired the amped Grand Oaks batters as they came up to the plate. Coronel only allowed 2 runs off of 7 hits from Grand Oaks.

Grand Oaks started University of Texas commit, Hudson Hamilton. With his signature teal glove he also retired The Woodlands in the first but gave up 4 runs off of 6 hits. In the bottom of the 3rd, The Woodlands was able to bring in 2 runs increasing their lead, 3-1.

They held the lead throughout the game although in the 4th, Grand Oaks was able to cut their lead to a single run.

Although Grand Oaks out hit The Woodlands, they couldn’t capitalize on those extra hits. If this was a traditional Regional Quarterfinal, Grand Oaks would be packing their gear up and ending their season. But, since this is a series, Grand Oaks will bring the momentum in Game 2 and try to tie the series.

The Woodlands is up 1-0 in the series with a 4-2 win in Game 1.
