TOMBALL, TX -- Tomball High School faced Klein in a varsity match this past Friday evening. With the game being tight, both teams played strong for this district opener. Tomball took home the win, scoring 38 to 35. Woodlands Online talked to Head Coach Dave Handal and asked him for his views on this game.

“We always tell our kids to keep fighting and finish it. Regardless of the fact we were down 35 to 24 early in the fourth quarter, we kept playing and playing, and eventually good things happened,” Handal said, right after the final scores were submitted.

The game started on equal footing, with one touchdown each made by both teams in the first quarter. At no point had the game foreseen a clear win on either side, a seesaw on both ends for whoever would lead. It wasn’t until the last two minutes, with chants from Tomball’s student section, ‘I believe that we can win this!’ were made, marking the game was almost over.

“We told our kids that it would come down to who makes a couple plays in the last quarter and that’s how it wound up playing out. I knew that Klein had a good football team and that they were well coached,” Handal stated when asked about predictions from earlier in the game. “Though our start wasn’t really what we wanted, we picked it up and got the win, so that’s all that matters.”

Kicking it on, both the Cougars and Bearkats played exceptionally well. In the heated game, the Bearkats couldn’t dent through the final few passes. As the offense picked up the defense, both teams started getting better, holding their ground till the end.

Remember that Tomball will not be hosting another home game for the next few weeks, but also note that tickets will be available online if interested. Stay tuned for more coverage with Woodlands Online.
