Woodlands Online is official dropoff location for Junior League’s ‘Healthy Appetites Promote Positive Youth’ food drive
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Woodlands Online is proud to become the latest partner in Junior League’s fight against child hunger by becoming a dropoff location for its food drive.
In the festive holiday season, it’s easy to forget that there are those less fortunate. In fact, it’s hard to imagine that in today’s time and location that there are children who go hungry. Junior League of The Woodlands is determined to remind people of this plight and to facilitate the ability to do something about it with its H.A.P.P.Y. program.
Healthy Appetites Promote Positive Youth is a program that addresses the issue of child hunger in our community by providing weekend nourishment to children who qualify for free and reduced meals through the state of Texas.
According to the Junior League, one in six Texas households struggle to avoid hunger. Lack of proper nutrition not only adversely affects academic performance, but children in food insecure homes are more likely to fall ill, resulting in higher school absences. In the 2021-2022 school year, Junior League volunteers assisted in supplying children at thirteen partnering schools with more than 6,900 bags of healthy, child-friendly, non-perishable food. For the current school year, the program expanded to support 15 schools with plans to deliver more than 9,500 bags of weekend food to hungry children in our community.
