THE WOODLANDS, TX – Raise a glass and toast with a glass of water that has a chance for the first time this season to actually turn into ice. Freezing temps are right around the corner, and this week is a decent segue from warm to cold.

Warm and cloudy will give way to bright and cool

Today, the cloud cover will continue to blanket the sky, and early this afternoon we’ll get a small (25 percent) chance of rain for a bit. We’ll hit the mid 60s for our high, not quite cold but still better than the temps in the 80s a few days ago. As the pressure system turns around and starts a slow climb, however, the temps will plummet and we’ll end up with a low of 43 under still-cloudy skies.

Saturday midmorning, the clouds will meander off and the sun will start peeking through. The high temperature will struggle to make it up to 60 and fall a couple of degrees short. The continuing high pressure system will make for some gorgeous outside weather. But once the sun sets the temps will plummet, and we’ll actually hit the freezing point of 32 degrees for an overnight low. Fortunately, it won’t be enough to count as a ‘hard freeze’ but you’ll still want to bring in plants and pets and keep tabs on your outdoor pipes.

Early Sunday morning the pressure system will reverse course and the isobars will start dropping, so we’ll go from a brisk sunny morning to cloudier and warmer skies. The high will stay the same as the day before at 58 degrees, but the afternoon and evening temps won’t get nearly as cold and will settle around 45 degrees.

As Sunday segues into Christmas week, be aware of some impressive rain storms that could easily turn the roads icy as we finally hit a hard freeze later in the week…
