THE WOODLANDS, TX – The John Cooper School, a pre-K through 12 private school here in The Woodlands, is hosting an evening reception and viewing including short speeches by students from each division and alumni, taking place at the school’s Rock Math + Science Building, at Woodlands Parkway and Grogan’s Mill on Tuesday, February 7, starting at 6:00 p.m.

The event will also include an unveiling of The Josephine Project. Josephine Griffin Jones, born in 1907, migrated from Tennessee to Chicago in 1929 with one brown leather suitcase and two small daughters. Years later, this same suitcase became the home to hundreds of hand-written prayers, affirmations and prophecies concerning African Americans.

Josephine meticulously wrote prayers for her family, her church, her country, and international issues of the day. One of these prayers was in 1960 for the first Negro President – which was bestowed as a gift to President Obama in 2016.

The suitcase and other artifacts have been treasured by the Gardner family at The John Cooper School. Josephine is great-great-granddaughter to first grader Emerson Gardner.
