CONROE, TX -- The fourth place Conroe Tigers hosted the first place College Park Cavaliers at home in The Pit on Tuesday night. The stands were packed and the tension was high after a previously aggressive and physical matchup in early January. With just a few games left the Tigers looks to upset the rankings by defeating one of the top powerhouses in the district.

The first quarter was slow paced. Each team was feeling each other out but it was College Park who was successful in the paint by scoring buckets and drawing the foul. College Park played aggressive defense and stopped many of the Conroe attacks. By the end of the quarter the Cavaliers had a 10-point lead over the Tigers.

Down, Conroe would switch up their strategy and begin to play more aggressive towards College Park. This resulted in a defensive battle in which Conroe only allowed College Park to score eight points in the quarter. They would creep up on the lead but still fell short by the half. College Park would lead 28-22 at the buzzer.

The second half is where things turned around. The close game got even closer thanks to Conroe’s offense. G. Lewis would hit eight of the 16 scored in the quarter, while College Park would score nine. This wouldn’t be the first time Conroe took the lead but it was the first time that they held the lead over College Park for an extended period of time. Conroe would head into the fourth and final quarter in the lead 38-37.

Conroe would find a different gear in the fourth quarter and continue to contest College Park. Both teams would tighten up their defense but it was College Park who would draw the foul and hit the line four times. Unfortunately, they would go three for six which gave Conroe another chance to take the lead.

With just a couple seconds left, College Park would make one last stretch down the court but couldn’t connect. Conroe would disrupt the rankings and take College Park out of the first-place spot with just a few games left. Conroe will win by just two points, 52-50.

Conroe will face a tough Woodlands and Grand Oaks team for their final games while College Park hosts Oak Ridge and takes a bye.
