WILLIS, TX -- The dominate Willis Wildkats hosted The Woodlands Highlanders at home on Tuesday night for some Softball district play. Willis tops the rankings with no losses while The Woodlands looks to serve them their first loss.

It was a pitching and defensive battle between the teams as Kynlei Chapman and Chesney Davis both fought in the circle for strikeouts. Chapman was in for a special night as the Willis pitcher looked to hit 500 strikeouts of her career.

Within five innings Chapman was able to retire nine of the eleven Highlanders needed to hit her milestone. No runner on either side crossed the plate but a couple managed to stack the bases. As the sixth inning continued, she was able to knockout the remaining two strikeouts needed. The crowd went wild as the JV team ran up to the net waving a huge 5-0-0 in celebration for her accomplishment.

Although on a high Chapman struggled in the final inning as The Woodlands would rally starting with Gabby Leach who hit a two run double. This would give The Woodlands the lead and the first points of the game.

As the inning continued Mallory Suess and Alannah Leach would both bring in a run giving The Woodlands a 4-0 lead.

Willis would also heat up in the final inning as Davis would load the bases. With an error, Willis would bring one run in making the score 4-1. Addie Hall would give Willis another hit and another run but The Woodlands would close out the final batter and deliver Willis their first loss of the 2023 season, 4-2.
