THE WOODLANDS, TX -- As part of its commitment to social responsibility, the Sam Houston Corvette Club has recently donated $7,000 to Children’s Safe Harbor.

Raising funds for charities through its car shows and activities, the Club routinely gives back to local non-profit organizations in the local community.

The mission of Children’s Safe Harbor is to achieve justice and healing for every abused child and engage the community in that mission. Founded 24 years ago, its team of multi-disciplinary partners (i.e. law enforcement, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services) has helped over 25,000 children ages 2 - 17 in a safe place to be heard, helped, and healed. This children’s advocacy center serves Montgomery, Walker, and San Jacinto counties.

“We are incredibly appreciative of the support we have received now and in previous years from the Sam Houston Corvette Club. This group truly cares about its local community, and in particular our children and families,” said Victoria Constance, Ph.D., Executive Director of Children’s Safe Harbor. “The funds from this generous donation will be used within our mental health program, which supports the processing of trauma and grief for child victims of sexual abuse and assault. In particular, this wonderful donation will be used to support various children’s and caregiver groups on site at our facilities. In addition to individual and family therapy, group therapy is a powerful healing modality.

“As these groups are typically from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, children and their families arrive hungry from a long day at school. To help the children to focus on the group therapy activities, we offer a light dinner each week. These funds will support these healthy meals and therapy supplies and activities. Children’s Safe Harbor continues to provide the specialized services of a forensic interview to 200 children each month. We are so grateful to the Sam Houston Corvette Club for all that they do for the community, and look forward to working with them in the future!”

Commenting on the contribution, Sam Houston Corvette Club President Joel Henenberg said, “While Corvette ownership and related activities are at the center of the Sam Houston Corvette Club, our core values extend beyond simply car ownership. One of those values is to dedicate some of our resources to support organizations that provide assistance to members of our community in need. Children’s Safe Harbor is an outstanding example of such an organization. Their dedication to ending child sexual abuse and trauma brings hope to many with proven programs that can heal and create a pathway to healthy, whole lives. We are most pleased to provide our Club’s financial support to help Children’s Safe Harbor realize their mission and to make our community a better place to live, work and play.”

The Sam Houston Corvette Club Inc. was founded in 1993 and is the largest and longest-standing Corvette Club in the Houston area. The Club’s purpose is to encourage planned trips, events and social activities for its members, to provide and regulate events and exhibitions for Corvette owners, and to encourage careful and skillful driving on public highways.
