Commissioner Noack leads charge to provide property tax relief

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack persuaded Montgomery County Commissioners Court members on Tuesday to unanimously approve an increase in the homestead exemption for homeowners age 65 and older, continuing his efforts to provide relief to county taxpayers.

The age 65 and older homestead exemption will increase from $35,000 to $50,000, saving property taxpayers about $2.7 million.

Montgomery County also offers homeowners a 20 percent homestead exemption, as well as a $75,000 exemption for disabled residents.

Commissioner Noack worked diligently with Montgomery County Tax Assessor-Collector Tammy McRae to ensure age 65 and older residents receive the additional property tax break from Montgomery County.

“Being a good steward of taxpayer money means constantly evaluating where we can take action to allow residents to keep more of their hard-earned money,” Commissioner Noack said. “I appreciate working so closely with our county colleagues like Tax-Assessor Tammy McRae to get this done for our taxpayers.”

Commissioner Noack, first elected in 2012 and sworn into office on Jan. 1, 2013, has a proven track record of fighting to protect taxpayers – consistently lowering the property tax rate and leading the way to establish the 20 percent homestead exemption for all county homeowners in 2017.

Residents should contact the Montgomery Central Appraisal District to verify whether they have applied for the available homestead exemptions.
