Montgomery County Food Bank raises $75,000 at Outrun Hunger Fun Run to help feed those in need

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Montgomery County Food Bank held its second annual Outrun Hunger fun run presented by H-E-B, on May 7 at Grand Central Park in Conroe. The event exceeded the Food Bank’s goals by raising $75,000, which will help provide up to 300,000 nutritious meals for hungry children, families and seniors throughout Montgomery County. At Montgomery County Food Bank, every dollar raised helps provide up to four meals for those in need.

Outrun Hunger featured a timed 5K trail run and a 1K color run. Not even the rain during the beginning of the event could stop volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and over 400 participants from supporting the Food Bank and successfully ‘outrunning hunger’. The fun continued beyond the finish line, where runners and walkers the event’s Party Pavilion, consisting of food trucks, a kids zone, vendor fair, free beer zone, live music and more.

Outrun Hunger participants were also given the opportunity to fundraise on behalf of the Food Bank leading up to the event. The top team fundraiser was Quality Home Products of Texas. Their team raised almost $1,175 to benefit the Food Bank and the many people it serves. Top individual fundraiser was Katrice Muirhead, who raised $565. Top event sponsors included H-E-B as Presenting Sponsor and Waste Connections as Platinum Sponsor.

“The success of this year’s event wouldn’t have been possible without our runners and walkers, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and especially H-E-B for their generous sponsorship of this event,” said Kristine Marlow, President and CEO of Montgomery County Food Bank. “We are blown away by the community’s compassion and support of this year’s event. Together, we are stronger and are making a difference in the fight against hunger.”
