THE WOODLANDS, TX – As our air conditioning units are being pushed to the breaking point and even the public swimming pools feel more like saunas, we’re headed into a holiday weekend of blistering temperatures. One thing to celebrate the weather over is that the ‘raw’ temperatures will stay in the 90s. Unfortunately, the humidity will keep the heat index firmly entrenched in the 100s.

Clouds and winds won’t keep the heat index out of the 100s

A low pressure front is about to come blitzing through, lasting through the rest of the day and crawling back up only after sunset. For the rest of the day we’ll bask under mostly sunny skies; the ‘dry’ high will ‘only’ be 96, but thanks to the heat index it’ll feel like 109 when the 5 o’clock whistle blows. That ‘feels-like’ temperature won’t get under the 90s until at least midnight tonight. It’s the perfect weather to catch a red carpet premiere of a locally produced feature film in an air conditioned – and food-catering – cinema; get your tickets now for the premiere of ‘Bailey’s Voice.’

Throughout the night, however, the clouds will come blowing in, thanks in part to the rising pressure. Our low will get all the way down to 75 shortly before sunrise. Within a few short hours, though, the Saturday temps will be back into the 80s and 90s. The silver lining is we’ll be about a degree cooler than the day before. It’s the small battles that count. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is even embracing the motif with its TLC and Shaggy: Hot Summer Nights with En Vogue and Sean Kingston concert.

Throughout Saturday, the clouds will wander off as the pressure once again drops. A moderate humidity and equally moderate winds will help make the outdoors bearable, but keep those ceiling fans complementing the AC that night as our low will still be a toasty 78.

By the time you wake up on Sunday morning, you’ll see a lot more clouds, leaving the heat behind but not the direct sunlight. Breezes blowing in from the coast will keep the air slightly damp as well; and even though the feels-like high will still be over 100, we can rest east ending the pre-July 4 celebrations on a moderate note. Enjoy it with a loved one or a BFF at a special couples / friends night at Painting With a Twist.

Come time for the fireworks and picnics, however, there might be some wetness in the air and on the ground…
