THE WOODLANDS, TX – In the June 13 session of Montgomery County Commissioners Court, Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack proposed a public hearing “to consider and approve setting a 20-mph speed limit on all county-maintained roads that have residential lot frontage in Precinct 3 and Precinct 2 and are located in residential subdivisions.” The hearing was set for July 11.

At that next meeting, the motion was approved by a 4 - 1 vote and is now set to go into effect. Currently, the speed limits in the affected areas range from 25 to 35 mph; the roads and streets involved in the lowered limits will be in front of residential properties only.

Both Precinct 3 – which encompasses The Woodlands Township – and Precinct 2 – which includes urban and rural areas north and west of The Woodlands and is commissioned by Charlie Riley – will drop their speed limits in the relevant areas. Both commissioners based their original motions on the question of safety and the amount of lives that could be saved with lower speed limits.

Throughout the rest of the year, crews will be working on replacing the existing speed limit signs with the new ones. Drivers are cautioned to be aware of changes in speed limits at any given moment, especially as the summer break comes to an end and schools prepare to go back into session.
