THE WOODLANDS, TX – Disconcertedly, an urgent need for food donations to replenish the emptying shelves of the Montgomery County Food Bank has been issued. The toll of providing an average of more than 732,000 meals a month to more than 80,000 individuals to the tune of 1.1 million lbs of food served is extreme on the food bank’s resources.

Food insecurity for local residents remains despite multiple programs

“As the cost of living continues to rise, many of our neighbors are facing hardship,” said MCFB in a statement. “Montgomery County Food Bank is experiencing a surge iun the need for food assistance across the county, while food donations are declining. The need is high and our stock is low.”

The food bank receives, processes, and distributes donated food through direct assistance and a network of more than 80 partner agencies. The nonprofit organization can also use donations beyond nonperishable food items in unopened containers and within their shelf life; monetary donations also go far, with every dollar donated providing up to four meals.

MCFB stresses that the support from the community is ongoing and appreciated; the issue is that demand is outweighing supply. The organization notes that the H-E-B Summer of Sharing event recently served 1,000 families in need.

“This mega mobile distribution was made possible by H-E-B, Conroe ISD, and Montgomery County Food Bank. H-E-B cooked up delicious meals via their mobile kitchens and provided all the school supplies and food, including prepared meals and groceries for each family. Conroe ISD graciously gave local support and offered for the event to take place at Woodforest Bank Stadium. A special note of gratitude goes out to our 100-plus dedicated volunteers, who selflessly braved the heat to serve our neighbors facing hardship,” said MCFB staff in a statement.

Those same volunteers served a total of 4,062 hours in their commitment to community service. If you would like to add yourself to the volunteer roster, donate the appropriate foodstuffs, or wish to make a cash donation, learn more at www.mcfoodbank.org.
