THE WOODLANDS, TX – YES to YOUTH recently had its annual gala, but that’s just one of the many events, projects, and programs that the nonprofit organization has presented or otherwise been a part of this year. This summer was particularly eventful for YES to YOUTH, which is celebrating its 44th year of strengthening the emotional and mental health development of youth and families in Montgomery County by providing crisis intervention, counseling, and suicide prevention services.

One standout event was the Magnolia Mini-Summer Camp. The organization’s Magnolia office was the site for a four-day summer mini-camp organized to provide a fun skills group for counseling clients and the community. The focus was learning mindfulness and calming coping skills through the senses. The agenda consisted of multiple art projects, games, and short lessons. Of special note to parents; these summer mini-camps are free to youth who attend.

YES to YOUTH impacts the community, and frequently the community is eager to have an equally profound impact on the organization. Recently, the Waste Connections Golf Classic for Kids raised funds and awareness for YES to YOUTH. With special thanks to board member John Perkey along with Michelle Little in organizing the event, Waste Connections’ support provided mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and a home for abused, neglected, and homeless youth right here in Montgomery County.

YES to YOUTH was also quick to issue a sincere thank you to the Houston Young Lawyers Foundation (HYLF) for awarding a grant to transform a meeting room into a Sensory Processing Room in the organization’s newly renovated BridgeWay activity center. HYLF generously funded this project and invited representatives of YES to YOUTH to present some of their projects and programs to the foundation’s Board of Trustees and Fellows. A special thank you went out to YES to YOUTH’s Board Treasurer, Kristin Bates, a Lifetime Fellow of HYLF, for her integral assistance in securing the grant.

Finally, the organization sent out thanks to Lord of Life Lutheran Church and Jenny McKenna for granting it with funds for living center updates at BridgeWay Emergency Youth Shelter; specifically, to brighten up the cottages with decor items. The items to be purchased include fun bedding, rugs, lamps, and motivational posters.
