THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Rowing Club of the Woodlands has just announced a family-friendly, free event on November 18 that is open to the entire community. This Open House is intended to share the Club's love and passion for rowing with the community. The team's nationally-ranked rowers will be on hand to host fun activities and compete live on the lake. This event is open to all and includes food, drinks, activities and a mini regatta on the lake!

Rowing Club Shares Love for Sport with Community

What is a regatta? In a typical regatta, our crew competes with other teams in various boating categories (single, double, quad, eight, sculling, or sweeping.) It is usually a full weekend of enjoying the outdoors while racing or cheering for our team. During a regatta, the parents feed the athletes by tailgating-style of cooking beside the team tent. It is a fantastic social time to enjoy the sport of rowing and celebrate each personal record with one another while measuring our skills against those of other teams.

Unfortunately, all of our competitions are out of town so odds are, you have never experienced a regatta for yourself. That is what the Rowing Club of the Woodlands Open House is all about. We are bringing a mini regatta to our community to enjoy. We will have our fantastic regatta food, with team tents set up for shade to enjoy the races that will be on Lake Woodlands. For a prime spectating experience, you can stay at North Shore to catch the end of the 500-meter course, view the excitement from the bridge, walk down to Hughes Landing, or enjoy all three! The races you will see will be inter-crew races meaning, our club only, but you will get to see races with our Juniors races, races with the adult masters, and some races with everything intermixed. There will also be experienced rowers to guide you through rowing exercises on rowing machines (ergs) and rowing lessons on the land in a boat with oars. If you are interested in trying rowing for yourself, we will have information about observing a practice and signing up for upcoming learn-to-row sessions. This is a free event for the whole family to enjoy.
