February Shenandoah City Council Meeting Update

SHENANDOAH, TX -- Shenandoah City Council held its most recent meeting on February 14. In attendance were Mayor John Escoto, Mayor Pro Tem Charlie Bradt (Position 4), Mike McLeod (Position 5), Jim Pollard (Position 3), Ted Fletcher (Position 2), and Ron Raymaker (Position 1).

The following items were addressed:

Discussion and Public Hearing for a Special Use Permit for Medical Services: Restricted - Aspire Allergy and Sinus Clinic, 1500 Research Forest, requesting a SUP to operate a medical office in a Neighborhood Services (NS) zoning district. A public hearing was held with no comments from the public. Council voted 5-0 to approve the SUP.

Acquisition of Right of Way - The City has been in negotiations with Home Depot and King Fuel for the right of ways (ROW) needed for the widening of Tamina Road/Research Forest under the I45 overpass. The negotiations for the right of ways required addition funding. The MDD board approved an additional $285,000 which will cover the legal expenses, the striping of the Home Depot parking lot, the opening of the Home Depot parking lot to Alexandra Drive, additional parking spots and a sign location change for King Fuel. The costs of this project will be submitted to Montgomery County Commissioners Court for possible total reimbursement through their available pass-through funds. – Council voted 5-0 to approve the right of way acquisition.

Landscape Services for City Properties - The City went out for bids for landscape services on city-owned properties and received five bids. The lowest qualified bidder was Ambassador Services for $659,311.32 for a period of three years. Council voted 5-0 to approve the bid.

Approval of Minutes of October 25 and November 15, 2023 - Council voted 5-0 to approve the accounts payable.

Ratification of Accounts Payable for December - Council voted 5-0 to approve the accounts payable.

City Administrator Updates:
Entrance sign replacement is in process. Construction should be started next week.
The drainage project at water well #3 is completed.
Upcoming events:

  • Arbor Day event is March 2 at the Public Works bays, 9 a.m. to noon.
  • Trash Bash, March 23, from 8 a.m. - noon, at the Public Works Bay.
  • Easter at the Park is also March 23, from 10 a.m. - noon, at the Shenandoah City Park.
  • Montgomery County Safety Expo, sponsored by the Shenandoah Police Department and Conroe ISD Police Department, will be April 6, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Woodforest Stadium parking lot.
  • Shenandoah's 50th Anniversary Celebration will be held April 13 from 4-7 p.m. at the Woodforest Stadium parking lot.

An Executive Session was not scheduled. The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
