Lone Star College System enters triple agreement to help high school students earn a bachelor's degree

HOUSTON, TX -- Aldine Independent School District (ISD) high school students now have an easier path toward earning a bachelor’s degree, thanks to a triple partnership with Lone Star College System, Aldine ISD and University of Houston-Downtown (UHD).

“Lone Star College System has already enjoyed long-standing partnerships with Aldine ISD and University of Houston-Downtown, and now we are eager to bring these three institutions together in this new unique program that will provide students a smooth and uninterrupted pathway from a high school diploma to an associate degree and then to a bachelor’s degree,” said Mario K. Castillo, J.D., LSCS chancellor.

Texas State Representative Armando Walle inspired the triple partnership to encourage more students to pursue highly skilled careers. The first cohort starts this fall with students enrolled in Aldine ISD’s Avalos P-TECH School and LSCS’s associate of applied science program. Once they graduate simultaneously from both institutions, they will seamlessly transfer to UHD to earn a bachelor’s degree.

“I reached out to initiate conversations with University of Houston-Downtown, Lone Star College and Aldine ISD because I saw an opportunity to connect all these resources to set kids in Aldine up for a lifetime of success,” said Walle. “I am grateful for all of the partners involved in working together to create this exciting new initiative.”
