THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township Aquatics Team has been recognized as a Top Training Provider and Gold Level Learn-to-Swim Provider by the American Red Cross for their effort and outreach completed in 2024.

Gold Level Learn-to-Swim Provider & Top Training

“Our learn-to-swim program is robust with more than 40 instructors certified through the American Red Cross teaching at 10 of our Township facilities,” says Aquatics Superintendent Cynthia Roberts. “Our instructors are able to work with swimmers of all ages, toddlers to adults, to help them gain more confidence in themselves and learn how to be safe in and around the water. The importance of learning to swim is something we take seriously and are proud to bring to the community.”

To qualify as a Gold Level Learn-to-Swim Provider, organizations must have taught 1,000 or more individual swim lessons within the community. The Woodlands Township has received this award consecutively since 2020.

The Top Provider recognition for organizations is based on the reach size of the trainings within its community, as it reflects how much the training programs have impacted the community by providing more safety education. The Woodlands Township reached more than 500 individuals for the 2024 fiscal year.

Each year an average of 350 Township lifeguards earn certifications through Township-employed American Red Cross Instructors. New staff take a full certification course and returning staff are required to take a refresher course before being on shift at the pool. Training continues as the Township conducts lifeguard skill audits throughout the season ensuring all staff are well versed in their skills and have the confidence to act when their assistance is needed.

The Woodlands Township operates 14 swimming pools, including at least one in each village as well as the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center. The Township’s aquatics facilities offer a variety of recreational opportunities such as lap swimming, open swim, spray grounds and seasonal special events. Designed to provide safe and family-friendly environments, these amenities cater to residents of all ages. Information on pool locations, schedules, admission fees, facility rentals, swim teams and employment opportunities can be found on the Township website at thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/pools.
