THE WOODLANDS, TX – Tracy LaPorte is a member of a small, exclusive club that no mother should be a part of: she is a Gold Star Mother, so named due to losing a child who has served in the United States Military. Tracy is the mother of the late Army Sergeant Adam Huckstep LaPorte, who was fondly and widely known as ‘2Step’ throughout his military career. Adam died in 2012 while on active duty and preparing to deploy in Afghanistan.

Event honoring fallen serviceman hits Lucy Blues in Conroe

In an effort to overcome her grief and to keep others from feeling as she had – or at least to lessen the pain – Tracy formed the ‘Sgt. 2Step Foundation,’ whose mission is to unite music, honor, and healing to uplift Gold Star Families, veterans, first responders, and survivors of the fallen. Through the Gold Star Music Series, Sgt. 2Step Award, scholarships, remembrance events, and free concert access, she and the foundation ensure no story is forgotten – with purpose, power, and passion.

This Saturday, the foundation is hosting the ‘Sgt. 2Step Festival’ at Lucy Blues Sports Bar & Grill, a new food and entertainment venue located at 711 Madeley Street in Conroe. The festival takes place that day from 2:00 p.m. until midnight, in honor of Gold Star Family Day, which also takes place this weekend.

The day will be filled with commemorations such as the unveiling of a Texas Honor Flag, special guests, and an auction. Additionally, more than two dozen bands and musical artists will perform, including Uncle Ryano, John Swat, Scotti Fraser, Caleb Hoelscher, Celeste Marie Wilson, Susan Hickman, and more.

General admission tickets to the festival are only $20 each, although Tracy allows up to four tickets for free for survivors of fallen families, and veterans get admission at no charge. Proceeds from tickets and donations will help survivors of the fallen as well as other community members in need.
