Lone Star College System board invites community to free holiday events
HOUSTON, TX -- This holiday season, the Lone Star College System Board of Trustees is hosting free, festive events for the community.
“This is an opportunity for the Lone Star College System Board of Trustees to express our appreciation for the community,” said Mike Sullivan, LSCS board chair. “We invite local families to enjoy these free events and close out the year by celebrating a season of giving, gratefulness and joy.”
Board Trustee Daniel Meza and former Board Trustee Ernestine Pierce will host a celebration of gratitude Nov. 22 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at LSC-North Harris, 2700 W.W. Thorne Drive, Houston. The first 300 families will receive a meal bundle featuring all the essentials needed for a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
Board Assistant Secretary Rebecca Broussard will host a Christmas Tree Lighting event Dec. 2 from 5:30-8 p.m. at LSC-Montgomery, 3200 College Park Drive, Conroe. Families can enjoy photos with Santa, food trucks, a scholarship raffle, snow, a DJ, a bounce house, a movie and more. There will also be a Toys for Tots donation collection.
In partnership with LSC-Houston North, Board Secretary Iesheia Wilson will host Christmas in Carverdale on Dec. 20 from 9-11 a.m. Held at the Carverdale Community Center, 9920 Porto Rico Road, Houston, this event will feature free food, games, gift giveaways and nonperishable food donated by Hope City.
LSCS trustees are committed to welcoming the community to the campuses they serve throughout the year. Each trustee hosts an event alongside the college president in their district. Prior events this calendar year have included:
- State of the Campus held at LSC-Kingwood with Board Chair Mike Sullivan
- Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway at Fallbrook Church with Board Vice Chair Myriam Saldívar
- Cy-Fest at LSC-CyFair with Board Trustee Michael Stoma
- Community Partnership Alliance at LSC-University Park with Board Trustee Jim Cain, Ed.D.
