Lone Star College-University Park inducts new members in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Ceremony
HOUSTON, TX -- Lone Star College–University Park’s Beta Upsilon Nu chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society inducted new student members during a recent on-campus ceremony. The event recognized students for their academic achievement, leadership and commitment to service.
Faculty advisors Joseph Butler, psychology, and Sandra Velazquez, business management, led the ceremony and commended the new inductees, joined by LSC–University Park President Matthew Dempsey and Vice President of Student Success Catherine Dumond, who offered congratulatory remarks.
“Each of these students has shown exceptional dedication to their academic goals, and we’re proud to welcome them into a community that values scholarship, leadership and service,” said Velazquez.
Phi Theta Kappa, recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for two-year colleges, is a leading organization that honors academic achievement and encourages leadership and service. To be eligible for induction, students at LSC–University Park must be enrolled in at least three semester hours, complete a minimum of 12 college-level credit hours at Lone Star College, earn a grade point average of 3.5, and adhere to the college’s student conduct code.
At the ceremony, the Beta Upsilon Nu chapter inducted 13 new members who met these academic and conduct standards and demonstrated strong leadership qualities. The new members are James Bustamante, Veronica Ceballos, Sophia Celis, Cataleyah Cook, Layla Harper, Karen Hernandez Castillo, Danielle Infortunio, Marina Ly, Nollia Parkinson, Naomi Trejo, Hope Faith Wiggins, Sebastian Williams and Efrain Calderon.
The program also included the installation of the chapter’s newest officers, Eduardo Silva, Selena Aguilera, Chelsea Baidoo, Victoria Purvis, Ivan Uribe, and Danielle Infortunio, who will help organize service projects, support chapter activities, and mentor incoming members.
This recognition reflects both Phi Theta Kappa and LSC–University Park’s shared commitment to helping students reach their academic and leadership goals. As the new inductees begin their membership, the chapter will support them as they continue their studies and contribute to the campus community.
