50th Arbor Day Tree Giveaway
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township is celebrating the 50th annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway!
This free event for The Woodlands residents continues the Township’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community involvement.
When: Saturday, January 31, 2026
Where: The Lodge at Rob Fleming Park
6055 Creekside Forest Drive
Time: 9 a.m. to noon
This long-standing community tradition encourages residents to take part in ongoing reforestation and beautification efforts by planting trees in home landscapes, community open space reserves and forest preserves throughout The Woodlands. Over the past five decades, the Arbor Day Tree Giveaway has helped preserve the community’s signature forested character while supporting a healthy and sustainable environment.
This year, residents may choose from 12 varieties of native tree seedlings, including both canopy and understory trees. All selected species support native pollinators and local wildlife, contributing to a balanced and thriving ecosystem.
- Canopy trees, which form the upper layer of the forest and typically grow 40 to 90 feet tall at maturity, include Loblolly Pine, Black Walnut, Green Ash, American Sycamore, Pignut Hickory, Live Oak and Shagbark Hickory.
- Understory trees, which range from 8 to 40 feet at maturity and are more shade tolerant, include Eastern Redbud, White Flowering Dogwood, Black Cherry, False Indigo and Common Witchhazel.
These native varieties provide essential benefits to wildlife. Flowering trees and shrubs supply nectar for bees, butterflies and other pollinators, while berry-producing species offer food sources for birds and small mammals. All serve as critical hosts for beneficial insects.
