Seeds of Sustainability
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township hosted two signature environmental events this season, the 50th Annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway and the 12th Annual Community Tree Planting, distributing and planting thousands of native trees to strengthen reforestation efforts throughout the community.
Over the past month, the Township acquired 20,000 native trees through generous sponsor support and direct purchases. Native trees are species that occur naturally in a region without human intervention and are uniquely adapted to thrive in the local ecosystem while providing essential benefits to wildlife and pollinators.
The 50th Annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway was held January 31, 2026, at The Lodge at Rob Fleming Park, where volunteers distributed more than 18,000 native tree seedlings to residents. Attendees received up to 24 free seedlings each, along with educational resources about the 12 native tree varieties offered.
On February 14, 2026, the 12th Annual Community Tree Planting took place at May Valley Park. A total of 93 volunteers, including participants from event sponsor CenterPoint Energy, received instruction on proper planting and mulching techniques before planting more than 800 native trees in a recently cleared area of the park. The effort included both seedlings and five-gallon containerized native trees. Mulch donated by Rothco Tree Service was applied to promote long-term tree health and survival.
The Township extends its appreciation to event sponsors Howard Hughes, National Wildlife Federation and Indorama Ventures for their support in making these events a success.
