Montgomery County man sentenced to 30 years for brutal family violence attack
THE WOODLANDS, TX – A Montgomery County man has been sentenced to 30 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after pleading guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury involving Family Violence.
Lance Michael Campbell, 39, was sentenced by Judge Kathleen Hamilton of the 359th District Court following a sentencing hearing on May 13, 2026. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Mary Garcia and Victor Jarvis.
On December 5, 2023, deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a family violence call involving Campbell and his wife. Upon arrival, deputies learned the victim had been stabbed multiple times with a butcher knife while the couple’s five-month-old son remained inside the home.
The victim sustained multiple injuries, including stab wounds to her palm, wrist area, forehead, chin, and a deep gash across her neck. Deputies detained Campbell at the scene without further incident. The child was not physically harmed.
Assistant District Attorney Mary Garcia said the sentence reflects the seriousness of the violence inflicted upon the victim, regardless of the difficult and emotional dynamics often present in family violence cases.
“Family violence cases are often deeply complicated for victims and families, but the severity of this attack could not be overlooked,” Garcia said. “The victim showed tremendous courage throughout this process, and this sentence ensures accountability for an act of extreme violence while recognizing the lasting trauma caused by these offenses.”
District Attorney Mike Holley said violent family violence cases continue to have devastating impacts on victims, children, and families throughout the community.
“Violent family assaults leave lasting physical and emotional scars that extend far beyond a single moment,” Holley said. “This defendant repeatedly stabbed the victim inside her own home while their infant child was present. That level of violence demands serious consequences. Our office will continue standing with victims, protecting families, and aggressively prosecuting those who commit violent crimes in Montgomery County.”
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office commends the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for its investigation and response in this case.
