THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township continues to create healthier habitats for pollinators while enhancing the beauty of community parks through partnerships and environmental stewardship.

New Pollinator Garden Transforms Wendtwoods Park

In May, The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department welcomed 14 volunteers from Critter Control to Wendtwoods Park for a morning dedicated to litter cleanup and the creation of a new pollinator garden. The project was made possible through an $8,000 grant awarded to Environmental Services in partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful, Keep America Beautiful and Critter Control.

The morning began with a 30-minute cleanup throughout Wendtwoods Park, where volunteers collected nearly six pounds of litter, approximately 30 gallons of debris, helping restore the natural beauty of the park.

Following the cleanup, volunteers worked alongside Township Environmental Services staff to transform the park with a vibrant native pollinator garden. After a brief planting demonstration, participants installed 103 native pollinator plants selected to provide food and habitat for butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other beneficial wildlife.

To complete the project, volunteers spread fresh mulch throughout the new and existing garden beds, installed plant identification markers to educate park visitors about the native species, added gravel pathways and strategically placed decorative rocks to define the garden space.

The new garden will provide an important habitat for local pollinators while creating a beautiful destination for residents to enjoy. Expanding pollinator habitat in Township parks is one of the many ways The Woodlands Township is working to support biodiversity, strengthen local ecosystems and promote sustainable landscaping practices throughout the community.

Educational signage will soon be installed at the garden, providing visitors with information about the importance of native pollinator plants and the critical role pollinators play in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Through native landscaping, habitat restoration, litter prevention and environmental education, the Township continues to promote sustainable practices that benefit both residents and local wildlife. By expanding pollinator habitat in community parks and partnering with volunteers and local organizations, the Township is helping create healthier ecosystems while preserving the beauty and environmental quality that make The Woodlands a special place to live, work and play.
