The Township has something for everyone during Parks and Recreation Month
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Township proudly joins communities across the country in celebrating Parks and Recreation Month this July, as designated by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).
This year’s theme, “The Power Of…” recognizes the power of parks and recreation, play, nature, community, belonging, well-being and the people who make these experiences possible. The Woodlands Township encourages all residents to explore the parks, pathways and recreational programs that make our community exceptional.
The Woodlands boasts a robust network of more than 150 community parks, more than 220 miles of pathways, and 4,445 acres of open space – equating to 38.3 acres of open space per 1,000 residents, which is 74 percent above the national average. With 151 parks, that’s one park for every 788 residents, a figure 155% above the national average, making access to green space a defining feature of the community.
Have fun exploring the parks, from neighborhood green spaces to large community parks. Enjoy playgrounds, trails, and more – each with unique features designed to enhance outdoor fun and community wellness. There are even several parks with dog-friendly areas, including Bear Branch Park, Cattail Park, Harper’s Landing Park, Rob Fleming Park, Tamarac Park, and Terramont Park.
The Woodlands also features an extensive multi-use pathway system connecting neighborhoods, parks, schools, and retail centers. Designed for walkers, cyclists, and others, the pathways promote safe and active lifestyles.
You can also explore the 1,800-acre George Mitchell Nature Preserve, featuring scenic hike and bike trails, native wildlife, and connections to the Spring Creek Greenway. Access the preserve via Flintridge Drive near Rob Fleming Park and Texas TreeVentures. Maps and trail guides are available to enhance your adventure.
The Woodlands Township has upgraded several sportsfields with durable, all-weather artificial turf to expand capacity, reduce water use, and lower maintenance costs. These UV-resistant fields support year-round play and long-term savings while meeting high safety and performance standards.
For special occasions, reserve park pavilions online for private events in The Woodlands. Field reservations are open monthly and are reviewed in the order received. For help with facility or field rentals, email fields@thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.
