Library Events in The Woodlands – August 3 - 8, 2026

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands enjoys two amazing libraries within the Township borders – the George & Cynthia Mitchell Library located at 8125 Ashlane Way, and the Kevin Brady Library located at 2250 Buckthorne Place – that are open Mondays - Thursdays 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Fridays - Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (closed Sundays).

Beyond having tons of books to check out, these libraries also offer computer / internet services, reference and research services, movie check-outs, classes, workshops, activities, and more. Woodlands Online presents this weekly summary of what each week has in store.

All library events, programs, and classes are free and open to the public. If any individual requires an accommodation to participate in the library events, programs, or classes, please contact the host library location at least three days before the program or event. Some events require registration. Classes and events with full already-full registrations are not included in this list. Events are subject to change without notice.

Monday, August 3

Play Dough Party
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Drop in anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to play and create with play dough! Explore tools, textures, and play stations while building fine motor skills. Pre-registration is not required. Tickets are available at the Children’s Desk 15 minutes before the event opens. Space and supplies are limited. First come, first served. Admission may be briefly delayed if the room reaches capacity. For kids aged 0 - 5.

Mitchell Teens: Dungeons & Dragons One-Shot
3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Dungeons & Dragons One-Shot, led by DMs from the Adventure Begins. All experience levels are welcome. All supplies, snacks, and pizza are provided. For young adults aged 12 - 18.

Tuesday, August 4

Family Storytime
9:30 - 10:00 a.m., 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.
This story program is for children (ages 3 - 5) and a caregiver with an emphasis on stories and activities for preschoolers. This program emphasizes early literacy skills and is a great way to meet other families with young children. Entrance is first-come, first-serve, until the room or program is at capacity. Space is limited; please limit the number of adults in your group to allow more children into the program. Please attend one storytime each week to allow more children into the program. Children must be supervised by an adult. Food is not allowed in the program; please save your snacks for afterwards.

Computer Basics
10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Learn about the basics of computers in this beginner-friendly class. We will cover basic terminology, common devices, operating systems, navigation, and more. No prior knowledge is required. Registration required at https://montgomeryco-george-tx.whofi.com/calendar/event/1343289.

Come & Go Keychain Craft
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Get ready to kick off the school year by designing your own beaded keychain. Create a unique accessory for your backpack, keys, or lunchbox. This is a come-and-go program. Pre-registration is not required. Supplies are limited. First come, first served. Children must be supervised by an adult. Food is not allowed in the program; please save your snacks for afterwards. Adult Mahjong (Chinese Version)
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Let’s Play Mahjong! Join us for an afternoon of this popular tile game every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. Don’t worry if you don't know how to play; we will teach you!

Book Swap for Adults
1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Looking for some new reads? Whether you are a parent gearing up for the return of long school pickup lines or just need to refresh your TBR pile, this is the program for you. Join us in the large meeting room for a book swap. Bring anywhere from 1 to 10 books (Fiction or Non-Fiction) in good condition and trade them using our ticket-style system (bring 1, swap for 1; bring 5, swap for 5, etc.). Any leftover books will be donated to the Friends of the Library, so every book finds a good home. Open to ages 18+. No registration required.

Game Fun

Fiction Book Club for Adults
1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Join us in Community Room 102 for a spirited discussion. The featured book for August will be Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, a Goodreads Choice Award nominee for Readers' Favorite Fiction (2022) and nominee for Readers' Favorite Debut Novel (2022)

Remarkably Bright Creatures is an exploration of friendship, reckoning, and hope, tracing a widow’s unlikely connection with a giant Pacific octopus. Sponsored by: South Montgomery County Friends of the Library.

Teen: SAT Bootcamp
6:00 - 7:30 p.m., Computer Lab Room 214
Teens aged 15 - 18, prepping for the SAT can attend as few or as many sessions as they like. This program was designed by a student scoring 1500 on his SAT. Bring your own device or use a library computer. Registration has closed for this event.

Storytime & Critter Chat
10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Join us for a special storytime in partnership with Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center. Enjoy a nature-themed storytime followed by a Critter Chat, where Animal Care staff will introduce and share facts about one of their animal ambassadors. Pre-registration is not required. Join us at the Mitchell Library on Saturday afternoons this summer to watch the Jurassic Park series. The movie starts at 1:30 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room. Today’s movie is Jurassic World Rebirth. All movies are PG-13. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Dementia: Hope and Help

Join us as Lindie Heasler discusses the day-to-day realities of caregiving for Alzheimer’s/dementia loved ones, using examples and going through some hands-on exercises.

At the conclusion of the seminar, you will feel better equipped for the caretaking journey ahead in three important ways: You will have a deeper understanding of what your loved one may be experiencing; you will have practical tools for responding to some of the difficult situations that arise in everyday caregiving; and you will learn simple, practical ways to protect your own well-being, manage stress, and maintain balance as you care for a loved one with dementia. After a wonderfully long run of Planet Yum, it is coming to an end. This will be the last Planet Yum for the foreseeable future so we hope to see you there!
